State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Quarenda Pecunia primum est. 'T' in Cartouche. No.2918. Signed by Leech and Green Jr. Printed on thin laid paper. Typeset face with ornamental borders. Simple pattern back (style not used on 1778 notes), similar to 1778 notes, with imprint 'Printed by JAMES DAVIS, 1780'. The only $250 note motto type, but using two different face styles. Clearly a different face plate with a large 'T' in 'This' at the left, above and below a large bracket, with floral leaf to the left (in Newman: ''ornamental box''). From the 1,000 notes printed for the denomination, we do not know the ratio of one type versus the other.
Fine to Very Fine. Typical to above average condition for this paper type. Several folds, corner handling and some deep toning. A cloth strip repaired lower right corner. Considering the likely rarity, this note will a represent excellent value.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
