State of Pennsylvania. June 1, 1780 Act. Five Dollars. No.8611. Signed by Jones and Knox; countersigned on the back by R.[ichard] Bache. Printed on thin paper, watermarked 'CONFEDE/RATION'. Standard paper, size, designs and imprint as used on Maryland and other State issued ''Guaranteed'' notes. Without red interest payable stamping on face. Like the New York Guaranteed bills, this is a very rare series. There were 25,000 notes of each denomination authorized. A fourth denomination on this series (missing only the Three Dollars in this stellar offering). Another superb quality note. This is among the highest grade notes we are aware of and certainly a candidate for the finest known of the type.
Exceptional eye appeal with incredible paper quality and printing clarity. Crisp Uncirculated and would be called Choice to Gem if the cutting was slightly superior to the reality. The embossing to the back can be read off the fingertip blindfolded. The back color is Florida orange vivid. The mica glitters as it did at Hall & Sellers in 1780. The face margins are razor close along most of the perimeter, but mostly complete. Ignoring the less than perfect cutting, this is worth a runaway price as we believe this note represents an exceptional type note on the series. A superb collection of Guaranteed bills can be built upon this cornerstone of impressive grade and established rarity.
