State of Pennsylvania. June 1, 1780 Act. One Dollar. No.8812. Signed by N.[athan] Jones and J.[ohn] Knox; countersigned on the back by R.[ichard] Bache. Printed on thin paper, watermarked 'CONFEDE/RATION'. Standard size, designs and imprint as used on Maryland and other State issued ''Guaranteed'' notes. Without red interest payable stamping on face. Like the New York Guaranteed bills, this is a very rare series. There were 25,000 notes of each denomination authorized due to the large amount of Continental Dollar currency submitted for conversion. However, today these notes are quite rare along with the New York notes with the low print figure. Like the New York series, a key type for a complete ''One of a State'' Guaranteed note set. These are only seen in advanced collections.
The series is nicknamed ''Dollar Money'' since it places itself right smack in the middle of the other Pennsylvania note series denominated in the English system (the 1780 ''Island Money'' and the 1781 ''New Bills''). This is a superb selection of notes on this rare Act with seven of the eight denominations issued featured. An attractive note with honest wear and handling. Fine to Very Fine. Vertical fold, multifolds with wrinkling, corner folds, and handling. The note is still fairly crisp and clean. Bright with glittering mica and bright back color. A very sharp example.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
