Province of Pennsylvania. March 10, 1769. Twenty Shillings. ''Bettering House Money.'' No.281. Signed...Province of Pennsylvania. March 10, 1769. Twenty Shillings. ''Bettering House Money.'' No.281. Signed by Abel James, Jos.[eph] Fox, and Tho.[mas] Say. Printed on thicker, coarser stock than lower denominations (Two Shillings and less). Standard horizontal Pennsylvania size and format, approximately 88mm by 75mm. Typeset face with border cuts, Penn Arms at the lower side. No plate letter, asterisk after date on face. Nature print back with Hall and Sellers imprint, date '1769'. These higher denomination notes have significantly lower print figures than the small format change bills or notes of Two Shillings or less.

Also with only 1,000 notes printed with only one plate position used. A choice example on the series and type. Very Fine. Lightly quarter folded with the vertical lightly creased. The face is quite bright and cut closely as typical. Well accomplished signatures and very handsome. A very short top center edge slit and back crease soiling. Two pinholes at the left and two hard to see back foxing spots. Another beauty and under-appreciated compared to more available ''Gem Uncirculated'' notes on the later series and earlier Franklin imprint notes.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
