State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Fifty Dollars. Fundamentum mihi are Perennius. No.361. Signed by Caron and Coore. Printed on thick laid paper stock. Typeset face with ornamental borders. Simple pattern back, similar to 1778 notes, with imprint 'Printed by James Davis, 1780'. There was only one motto type used on the $50 notes with a listed print run figure of only 8,000 notes. That would make the $50 notes considerably scarcer than the 56,000 plus $25 notes printed on six motto types. Fine to Very Fine. Still crisp, but several folds and a rough tear into the bottom edge and long slit into the upper right edge. Mottled age toning. Likely, a sleeper type;
Fifty Dollars Fundamentum mihi are Perennius. No.7466. Signed by Green Jr. and Coore. Printed on thin laid paper. Size, style, designs and imprint as last. Thin paper type of this denomination and single motto type. About Extremely Fine. Vertical fold, corner folds and handling. Back top edge hinge remnant. Subtle edge toning. Both with light pencil notations, likely from Wayte Raymond. Useful pairing of both paper types on this single motto type. 2 pieces.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
The back pattern used on these $50 notes is the same as that used on the $100 notes from 1778.
