State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Twenty Five Dollars. Quid non virtute efficiendum. No.211. Signed by Caron and Coore. Printed on thick paper stock. Typeset face with ornamental borders. Simple pattern back, similar to 1778 notes, with imprint 'Printed by James Davis, 1780'. The fourth different motto type used on the $25 notes. The print figure is not exact as listed in Newman, but ''8,000 plus'' like the Dulce... type. This note is stellar quality and should be right up there with the finest examples on the entire issue date, not just the type.
Choice Crisp Uncirculated and worthy of full Gem Status. There are only some very light ''dings'' on the corners from the occasional collector handling since 1780. The heavy Caron signature shows through very lightly to the back. Very light pencil code at the back upper right corner and pencil priced ''1.50'' in the back upper left corner.
This note was likely untouched for fifty years or so until we carefully holdered it into its Mylar D sleeve for protection. An immaculate note with the cleanest surfaces that can be imagined and would make the NASA ''clean room'' proud nor would it pollute a sterile operating theater with any germs or other evils hiding in other worn out Colonial notes. Deeply embossed from the face to the back with impressive clarity. A ''top of the charts'' condition census note.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
The squared type pattern back corresponds to the $4 back type used on the 1778 notes.
