Colony of the Massachusetts Bay. June 18, 1776. Two Dollars or Twelve Shillings. No.359[?]. Payable on June 18, 1778. Signed by C. Davis and Abner Ellis. Printed on coarse paper. 70mm by 91mm. The standard design for the series: within an arch styled cartouche is a small vignette, to the left of the text, of a patriot brandishing sword in right hand and holding draft of Magna Carta [text not printed on the broadside, but initialed 'M-A'/C-A'] in left. Obligation text with due date enclosed. On the back perpendicular denomination text between two sets of double lines.
A rare series and an attractive note with honest wear. Fine to Very Fine. Creased, but the paper type does not break as readily as Revere's prior ''Swords.'' A well printed face with modest soling. Corner rounding and two paper mount marks at the top back edge. An ink blot at the back lower right from stacking. Excellent for a type set.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
