Georgia. 1777. Five Spanish Milled Dollars. No.2287. Blue-Green seal. Cannon. ET DEUS OMNIPOTINCE. Border variety (c). Signed by Andrew, Stone, Saltus, O'Bryen and Ewen. Printed on laid paper. This is one of the classic seal types and the three examples in the Ford X Sale in May, 2005 were fought over appropriately. Like so many Georgia seal notes, the vast majority of these wider format issues are torn, frayed or have dull seals. This note is an exception to the rule.
A lovely example for the technical grade. Very Fine or Better. A strong representative of the type. There are over ten or so folds (but who's counting?), vertical and wide off some of the corners. These are seen mostly from the back with some soiling as well. The bright and vivid face contrasts the sea blue-green seal that is well struck, evenly shaded and has a readable motto. Widely margined around the perimeter and ''boardwalk' on three sides. The top left is close and slightly in. There is a very slight nick into the wide left margin. As stated, exceptional eye appeal and a wonderful type.
