1662 Massachusetts Oak Tree twopence. Noe-29. Rarity-6+. AU-53 (PCGS). An especially well-detailed specimen of this important denomination, the only 1662-dated issue in the Massachusetts silver series and the lowest valued piece struck by the Boston Mint. Light silver gray surfaces show faint granularity throughout, perhaps the result of a ground find, but not enough to prevent PCGS from assigning a grade. There is clearly very little wear, indeed, some lustre and light toning may be seen in protected intricacies of the design. Nicely centered on a broad planchet, impeccably detailed at obverse center with a good sharp tree, a bit weak at beads above AT on obverse. The reverse is aligned towards 10:00 with a large area outside the beading near 4:00-5:00. The detail on that side is also excellent despite the granularity. Perhaps technically Uncirculated or very near to it, this piece will offer a major variety collector an excellent value in terms of sharpness per dollar spent.
PCGS Population: 10; 9 finer (MS-62 finest).
