L.6B, HT unlisted (R-9). New York Whigs Victorious. Feuchtwanger's metal (German Silver). Unique and unrecorded until now. Very Fine in terms of actual wear. U.S.S. Constitution at sea. Rev. FLOURISH COMMERCE, FLOURISH INDUSTRY, a reversal of the popular anti-Jackson attack, Perish Credit, Perish Commerce. Light silver-gray, the alloy's brittleness is demonstrated by a dramatic obverse dropped lamination, resulting in an arc of missing metal crossing the exergue. This reverse shows weak strike and some roughness at the lower left. This dramatic, unknown-alloy piece was completely unknown to Rulau, and represents a major discovery in this generally well-researched token area. Rulau lists a silver piece but doubts its existence.
Ex John J. Ford Jr. Collection, previously ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
