1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 4.2-R (Rarity-6+). Mailed Bust Right. About Fine/About Good. Surfaces are remarkably smooth and of a lovely light coffee brown hue, with only a few minor circulation tics on both sides. Planchet is noticeably oblong in the north/south direction and is perhaps overstruck, although there are no clear remains of a host. Die states are quite late, later than even the extremely late die state of the Ford 9:477 coin. Central obverse devices are weak as a result of the failing die, while the reverse devices are essentially nonexistent due to the deterioration of that die. Here is a remarkable specimen of this Connecticut rarity that was discovered unattributed in a consignment and is most probably new to the census.
