1879 The '9' in the date clearly shows evidence of having been repunched over another numeral to the right of the knob, as well as at the left inner portion of the upper loop. A bright Extremely Fine with a thin mark adjacent to the nose of Liberty in the left obverse field. The peripheries retain quite a bit of mint frost. Breen lists an 1879/8 overdate that he calls very rare. We hesitate, however, to describe this coin as such as we are not at all convinced that the undertype on this specimen is an eight.
