1843'C' Large Date, Plain 4. Nearly About Uncirculated in strict terms of wear. The Charlotte mintmark is boldly repunched on this reverse as Akers noted, but the date is without recutting. This rare Branch Mint coin shows normal circulation with some light hairlines on both sides, but is a strongly struck and finely detailed example of this Southern Branch Mint's production. Mint records show 23,076 struck of this variety, but its great scarcity suggests that the vast majority of this mintage was lost or remelted before collecting by mintmark gained its great popularity in the early 20th century.
