PE.8. Henry Clay Memorial Medal, 1852. Copper bronzed, 76.6mm. By Charles Cushing Wright. Uncirculated. Obv. Kentucky statesman's bust l., vital dates below. Rev. Hand traces Clay's accomplishments on scroll. Deep glossy mahogany with the obverse a trifle darker. The statesman's son Thomas H. Clay wrote on August 26, 1852, ''Mr. R.C. Chandler of New-York City has shown me a copy of a Bronze Medal, commemorative of my father, now in course of publication by J.B. Richards. C.C. Wright... is the engraver... I find the likeness most excellent, and as a work of art I consider it inferior to no other.''
