Louis XIV. Louis d'or à l'écu du Béarn, 1691. Pau. The final '1' over '0'. Types...Louis XIV. Louis d'or à l'écu du Béarn, 1691. Pau. The final '1' over '0'. Types as last. Flan neuf. Another lovely specimen with the trivial haymarking and adjustment as above. A major rarity of the Sun King. Brilliant Uncirculated. (Est. $8,000-$10,000)

Gadoury lists these as the two years of a two-year type. Krause suggests four years, 1690-1693. Duplessy indicates the two years 1690 and 1691 as Réformations. The Réformation pieces are identifiable by a star on the reverse below the shield. Friedberg identifies three years, 1690-1692, with the 1691 an overdate as the piece here.
