JAPAN. Kanagawa-ken. Ryo (1868). Floral borders, sepia photo inset of government building below value handwritten in black ink. Embossed seal over inset. On the back: blue and red ink stamps. Near bottom, English legend handwritten in black ink: Promise to pay the bearer one (1.) Rio at government office of Kanagawa or Teppodiku in Tokei. (The ''One'' and its numeric value written in pencil). With original collection wrapper, a piece of 19th Century pink commercial stationary (without imprint, but from F. Perregaux & Co., Yokohama, Japan). Small nail press and cut upper right edge. Very minor foxing. Good Very Fine. A very rare satsu of considerable historic interest. (Est. $2,000-$3,000)
