Spirit of Flight Plaque, ca. 1930. Bronze Foundry Cast, 340x287mm. Artist's signature as on the preceding, a circular CED monogram at lower r. About Uncirculated. Although it bears the same signature as the preceding plaque, this piece is as ultra-modern in style as the last is staunchly traditional. This anepigraphic plaque shows two upright pylons bracketing a futuristic flying female nude in a close-fitting helmet bearing excessively long, streamlined wings. She is in vigorous pursuit of a fast-moving discus-like object. This remarkable aerodynamic design closely resembles the consciously modernistic medals struck for the contemporary Chicago's National Air Races than any traditional art of Julio Kilenyi. It is almost certainly not from his hand but from some other artist of the era.
