Foundry Cast Obverse for a Lake Placid III Winter Olympics Medal, 1932. Bronze rectangle, 220x195mm, tapering at top to width of 117mm. By Julio Kilenyi. About Uncirculated. This delightfully bold Art Nouveau design has three soaring uprights framing a standing figure of Fame holding a laurel victor's crown and the Olympic torch whose sinuous smoke swirls gracefully over her head. This elegant design appears to be a study for the 60x48x29mm struck Bronze actually issued, whose generally similar figure of Fame blows a trumpet while holding an Olympic Torch with similar swirling smoke. Surfaces were given a red-bronze coating which is a lighter below Fame's outstretched arm. The back presents four threaded posts for affixing to an appropriate backing. Here is a second Olympic design that will reward intensive research.
