(Douglas 54) Washington Inauguration Centennial Celebration Badge, 1889. Struck Bronze, 34.8mm, with pinback 1789-GW-1889 header and FINANCE COMMITTEE bar with yellow-gold ribbon in tatters. By Augustus Saint Gaudens and Philip Martiny. About Uncirculated in strict terms of wear. Obv. Civil bust l., fasces r. Rev. Eagle over 13-line Centennial inscription. This is a rare struck miniature of Saint Gaudens' famous cast medallion.

This Celebration Badge may have been worn by Hyde's father Henry Baldwin Hyde as James was only 13 in 1889.
