Erie Canal Completion Medal, 1825. White metal, 81.2mm, 5.7mm thick. By Sir Edward Thomason. Uncirculated. Obv. Neptune and Pan, UNION OF ERIE WITH THE ATLANTIC. Rev. New York State Arms over canal with locks, conduits, city view. This handsome British-made medal was an unauthorized copy of Charles Cushing Wright's smaller medal for the occasion. Plentiful lustre, obverse shows dark toning with a hint of corrosion on the highest points from long cabinet storage.
