J.PE-8. Henry Clay Medal, 1852. Copper bronzed, 76.6mm, 3,669.3 grains. Uncirculated. By C.C. Wright....J.PE-8. Henry Clay Medal, 1852. Copper bronzed, 76.6mm, 3,669.3 grains. Uncirculated. By C.C. Wright. Obv. Aged bust l. in cord border. Rev. Hand traces Clay's achievements on scroll, THE ELOQUENT DEFENDER OF NATIONAL RIGHTS. Deep red mahogany surfaces show a few faint freckles, obverse is a trifle darker. Medals were originally accompanied by an explanatory insert dated Mansfield (near Lexington), Kentucky on August 26, 1852 and a testimonial from Clay's son: ''Mr. R.C. Chandler of New-York City [a travelling salesman for the medal's publisher] has shown me a copy of a Bronze Medal, commemorative of my father, now in course of publication by J.B. Richards. C.C. Wright, the engraver of the New-York Gold Medal, is also the engraver of this. I find the likeness most excellent, and as a work of art I consider it inferior to no other. Thos. H. Clay.''

Ex Al Hoch, October 22, 1964.
