The Catholic leaders of the last phase of the Thirty Years War gathered at Münster, the Protestants at Osnabrück in an attempt to reach an agreement mediated by Papal emissary Cardinal Chigi. The actual peace came four years later as the Treaty of Westphalia. The Goppel illustration omits the 1644 dates, showing the modified design for the 1748 general Peace of Westphalia.
