Italian-born Giorgio Beretta was a St. Thomas shopkeeper from 1867 and a ship-owner from 1880. In 1915, his company sold coral, lace and Panama hats. A long-lived firm, Beretta's imported Italian gift articles in the 1960's. The Beretta tokens were likely of French manufacture. Their legend: E Probitate Decus can be translated as ''An Ornament of Righteousness.''
