38th Regiment. 1st Staffordshire Regiment Faithful and Meritorious Service Medal,  ca. 1815. Brass...38th Regiment. 1st Staffordshire Regiment Faithful and Meritorious Service Medal, ca. 1815. Brass gilt, 41.2mm, integral loop. Very Fine. Tancred p.330, Ballmer R309c. Obv. Engraved George III monogram, XXX VIII REGT. Rev. Hand engraved 38 REGT./ to a deserving/ Soldier as a/ TOKEN/ of faithful and meritorious service. This medal is also known in Silver. The regiment was one of the first dispatched to America, arriving in Boston in 1774. It fought around Boston during that city's siege by General Washington as well as at Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. The regiment spent most of the rest of the war stationed in New York City, returning to Great Britain on the close of hostilities in 1783.
