Pergamum is recognized as the mint that produced the finest portraits of Alexander the Great. Perhaps five of the fourteen obverses known to Arnold-Biucchi (in Studies Price) represent the best work. This coin is from one of those obverse dies and is certainly one of the finest of all Hellenistic coin portraits.
