$1.00. Legal Tender Mimic Note, ''The United States Promised to Pay the Bondholders''. Very Fine. A very ornate political note which was clipped off a large circular. The design, face and back is a mimic of the 1862 $1.00 Legal Tender Note with Salmon P. Chase at the left. After the Civil War, bondholders were dissatisfied in the manner they were paid (not in the Specie promised). The government wanted to pay in greenbacks for which this note is an ad. Colorful and quite scarce.
