Simmons Improved Sovereign Balance, ca. 1860. Brass, 100 x 23mm. Hinged balance bears two fitted openings stamped SOVEREIGN WARRANTED, SOVEREIGN 1/2. Counterweight bears an incuse crown, base shows both crown and SOVEREIGN WARRANTED. In original cardboard box with maker's label announcing ''Being so exact that no counterfeit can possibly... the Gauge of sufficient weight to turn the balance.'' Scale is About Uncirculated, box worn from much use.
