Cobb's descriptive label on back CONT. NAVY. BREECHES Fmd. Cobb believed this to be a Connecticut Revolutionary War naval button. Discovered January 1961 on a pair of white navy breeches owned by St. Louis coin dealer Burdette G. Johnson. Garment had 12 small size Eagle and Star buttons (Cobb 17), 11 of which were sold to collectors. One of three Naval buttons attached was sold to Sally Luscomb with the present piece retained by Cobb. The breeches and its remaining buttons were sold to Doyle DeWitt for exhibit in his Hartford, CT museum.
