1807 S.275 (R-3). Perfect Date, 'ER' Well Above Hair, Large Fraction. Mint State-60. Light to medium brown on the obverse and reverse and attractive. The surfaces have tiny nicks from handling, none of which are deep or distracting. Identifiable by a pair of random nicks on the 'B' of LIBERTY, and another pair below the first 'T' of STATES. No spotting or corrosion is found. Struck slightly off center on the obverse toward the 4:00 position, which allows a minute rim cud to be viewed left of LIBERTY, on the denticles only. The obverse die is strongly clashed on the right side from the wreath. Tied with two others as the sixth finest seen of the variety, and an important offering as such. Purchased by our consigner at our Herman Halpern Sale, and off the market since that time.
Ex Kolman Fixed Price List, January 1953, misattributed there as ''D.207, S.276''; Harold C. Bareford Collection; Herman Halpern Auction (Stack's, March 1988, lot 260).
