SEGS XF40. 998 1851'O' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $4,500.00 This meticulously struck coin displays the characteristic surfaces of salt water recovery. Delicate yellow-gold fields show a light scratch under Liberty's chin. Akers' researches revealed that the average grade of survivors of this New Orleans date was generally Very Fine to Extremely Fine. 999 1855 CH AU $1,900.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Satisfying mint lustre amplifies this pleasing Type I Double Eagle. There is a small obverse planchet streak at the third star. ICG AU58. 1000 1855'O' EF $9,000.00 Extremely Fine. Pale yellow gold surfaces retain a hint of protected lustre. This specimen did serve its purpose in commerse, but all major details are clearly evident. A scarce issue in all grades with a mere 8,000 coins struck for this date at the New Orleans mint!. A light wiping may have occurred in the past, but does not distract. Razor-sharp details were impressed by a forceful strike. A pleasing early San Fransisco product that is difficult to locate in higher grades. 1002 1856'S' AU $1,200.00 About Uncirculated. Rich yellow gold lustre amplifies this solidly detailed Double Eagle. A few typical surface tics are apparent. NGC AU50. 1003 1857'S' CH AU $2,600.00 Choice About Uncirculated, virtually Mint State. This bold variety displays a very bold '7' in the date, well-placed 'S' is somewhat less vividly impressed. Mint lustre is surprisingly rich in the smooth fields and on the razor-sharp devices as seen on a few of the coins of this San Francisco mintage brought up from the now-legendary shipwreck off the Carolina coast. Wear is refreshingly trouble-free, fields show a few light tics, and a single hairline on the cheek is noted for accuracy. 1006 1860'S' CH AU $2,200.00 Choice About Uncirculated. A lustrous amber patina adorns both surfaces of this pleasing Civil War Era coin. Minimal contact is reserved to the highest points. NGC AU55. 1007 1862'S' AU $1,100.00 About Uncirculated. Very light wear from brief and untroubled circulation can be seen on the higher points, lustre surrounds the reliefs. 1008 1866'S' With Motto AU $2,200.00 About Uncirculated. An attractive ''Reconstruction Era'' specimen. Champagne gold lustre permeates lightly worn devices. NGC AU53. 1009 1868'S' CH EF $700.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Lustre surrounds the devices, emphasizing the boldness of this coin's strike and lightness of its circulation. NGC XF45. 1010 1872'CC' EF $2,800.00 Extremely Fine. A pleasing amount of sparkling lustre appears around the reliefs of this highly appealing Carson City example, one of only 26,900 coins struck long before mintmarks became an established collectible. NGC XF40. 1011 1873 Closed 3 CH AU $1,100.00 Choice About Uncirculated, on the cusp of full Mint State. This conservatively graded coin exhibits luxuriant, essentially full lustre amplifying a splendidly detailed strike. Such wear as there may be is confined to the highest points, although bagmarks rather than wear may have determined the assigned grade. NGC AU58. 1012 1873 Open 3. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $750.00 Exceptionally vivid lustre gives life to this splendidly struck example, showing many attributes of Choice. 1013 1873 Open 3. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $500.00 Substantial glowing red-gold lustre bears a few scattered bagmarks as so often seen, but the overall visual quality is thoroughly satisfying. 1014 1874'CC' CH EF $1,600.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Red-gold lustrous surfaces are remarkably smooth, showing very moderate wear and only minor bagmarks of little visual consequence. Here is an attractive example of a Carson City date notoriously difficult to find in the higher grades. SEGS AU50. 1015 1877 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $600.00 The boldest red-gold lustre offers scattered obverse bagmarks. 1016 1882'CC' CH AU $2,200.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Deep golden lustre is remarkably full and reflective. The reverse is certainly Mint State and the obverse is more notably bagmarked than circulated. Another low mintage Carson City date that is always in demand. NGC AU55. 1017 1882'CC' CH EF $1,100.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Another high quality example of this elusive Branch Mint date, whose bright partial lustre gives the sharply struck obverse its vivacity. The reverse displays richer red-gold lustre flashing around the boldly defined reliefs. SEGS AU50. 1018 1883'CC' AU $800.00 About Uncirculated. Light circulation and ample lustre define this handsome coin. Bagmarks and three areas of minor rim damage can also be observed. 1019 1884'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $550.00 - or somewhat finer. Delightfully bold, flashing lustre saturates both sides, the obverse shows its complement of bagmarks. SEGS MS62. 1020 1888 CH EF $500.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Substantial red-gold lustre surrounds the reliefs on this lightly circulated coin. SEGS XF45. 1021 1889'CC' AU $900.00 About Uncirculated in strict terms of wear. Boldly defined devices and smooth fields spell basic quality but the coin has been harshly cleaned. One of only 30,945 struck. 1022 1889'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $700.00 This example of a lower-mintage San Francisco date provides dazzling reflective lustre of nearly prooflike boldness. 1023 1890'CC' CH EF $800.00 Choice Extremely Fine in regard to visible wear. Broad swathes of tan with hints of iridescent blue give the coin its distinctive coloration. SEGS XF45. 1024 1891'CC' AU $7,250.00 About Uncirculated with the sparkling lustrous appeal of higher grade. One of only 5,000 struck of a Carson City long recognized for its outstanding rarity in strictly Uncirculated condition. This sharply struck example represents the highest quality likely to be encountered by most collectors today. SEGS AU50. 1025 1892'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,100.00 Greenish-gold toning over moderately bagmarked surfaces gives this scarce date good eye appeal. 1026 1893 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $600.00 Heavy lustre in the fields shows only a few scattered marks of little importance.
