Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 748 1836 Head of 1837 AU $475.00 About Uncirculated. The scarcest of the three head styles used on Quarter Eagles of 1836. This bright, untoned example displays a full measure of icy mint frost. The surface quality, furthermore, is quite typical in every respect. As is typical of most New Orleans Mint Quarter Eagles of this type, there is some softness of strike at the centers. The surface quality, however, is largely smooth and there remains some ever so subtle traces of mint lustre in the most protected areas of the design. Basic devices remain bold though centers were typically weakly struck. Some ancient scratches can be found on the face. 751 1851 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $425.00 Glowing rose rings the peripheries of this predominantly orange lustrous specimen. Although not particularly rare, these early 1850s dated gold coins are often collected in conjunction with Gold Rush era materials. 752 1851'O' AU $250.00 The variety with a doubled date, there being remnants of an undertype slanting down to the right. A strong About Uncirculated example that retains its fair share of pale yellow mint frost. Close scrutiny reveals some very faint lines on both the obverse and reverse, however the overall visual presentation is quite acceptable. Scarce in this condition. 753 1852 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $675.00 - close to Choice. Full lustre highlights a bold strike, left obverse field shows a faint scuff. ANACS Cache MS62. 754 1852'O' AU $350.00 About Uncirculated or thereabouts from the standpoint of wear. Frosty mint lustre is still plainly visible in the protected areas, however there is evidence of a past light cleaning. A pair of tiny reverse rim bruises at 9:00 hardly detract. 755 1853 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,200.00 A trace of lovely sunset-golden toning accents underlying surfaces that are rippling with satin-velvet mint bloom. The visual allure of this specimen far surpasses that which is typically encountered. 756 1857 CH AU $250.00 Choice About Uncirculated. There is a blend of ever so pale rose and coppery toning on either side of this entirely frosty specimen. Evenly struck and exhibiting only a few very light surface marks. 757 1858'C' CH AU $3,750.00 Choice About Uncirculated, and on the cusp of Mint State. None of the Charlotte mint Quarter Eagles can be called common, and the 1858'C' is one of the rarer and underrated dates among its Charlotte brethren. The present specimen is about average for the issue in terms of strike, given the softness in Liberty's and the eagle's central details. The variety with doubling evident below the '1' and '8' of the date; listed by Breen as very rare. A hint of pale coppery-orange toning embellishes satiny fields and design elements. Were it not for a single trivial hairline in the left obverse field, this specimen would approach the Choice category. 759 1894 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $3,600.00 This virtual Gem presents immaculate fields dramatized by the most powerful prooflike cartwheel lustre. The devices boast jewel-like precision of strike and detail, all bathed in arresting red-gold lustre of breath-taking beauty. A classic low-mintage date with only 4,100 struck. Here is total Cameo contrast of richly frosted, diamond-sharp reliefs, suspended over ice-gleaming deep mirror fields of extraordinary depth and mark-free perfection. Flawless red-gold lustre drenches both sides of this meticulous strike. Akers called this date ''decidedly underpriced and underrated.'' This super-Gem would be especially hard to duplicate. PCGS MS66. 762 1902 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $1,200.00 Pristine fields and meticulously impressed devices combine to give this lustrous, glowing red-gold coin its remarkable visual quality. Deeply glowing light yellow gold lustre accompanies an exemplary strike. 764 1905 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $475.00 Another. This lustrous coin is individualized by a tiny obverse rim mark at 1:30, a hairline in the upper left field. 765 1906 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $475.00 Champagne gold surfaces adorn boldly struck central devices. PCGS MS63. 766 1906 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $240.00 Another. Richly glowing lustre shows a couple of minute copper spots of minor visual importance. 767 1907 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $950.00 Flawless full lustre combines with an exacting strike, giving this specimen of the last Liberty date its outstanding appeal. 768 1907 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,200.00 Another.
