1850 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated

CH BU |
$9,500.00 |
Toned with dark lilac and blue over the entire surface and attractive for this coveted rare date. The mintage for the year abruptly ended after a mere 7,500 were coined. Of these, many were melted during the economic disruptions caused by the California Gold Rush, which drove up the price of silver relative to the falling price of gold. There are moderate handling marks which seem to... more |

- with claims to Choice. Flashy, fully prooflike fields draw the eye to this coin, whose pearl-gray and silver surfaces are ever so gently toned in pale olive and champagne-gold hues. The central strike is quite bold for the issue, while Ms. Liberty's head and eagle's talons exhibit the flatness expected of this date. Surfaces are mostly free of disfiguring marks, although a few carbon... more |

$800.00 |
Choice About Uncirculated and bordering on full Mint State. On this variety the date is punched over a smaller downward slanting date which Breen suggests is the Half Dollar logotype. It was at one time believed that this variety was only found on Proof coinage but several circulation strikes, such as the present example, have come to light in more recent times. This particular example... more |

1870 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$2,600.00 |
A needle-sharp strike is seen in Liberty's fully detailed face and hands, the eagle's feathers and shield. Intermingled iridescent blue and rich rose toning contribute wonderful color to the flashing mirror fields and crisply defined reliefs. One of 1,000 Proofs struck, and certainly among the finest existing today. Locating a finer specimen might well prove impossible. |

1872'S'
|
AU |
$2,100.00 |
About Uncirculated or somewhat finer. Silver-white surfaces are remarkably smooth, showing a few light hairlines under a glass and a couple of flecks of surface residue. One of 9,000 struck in this penultimate San Francisco date. |
