Choice Fine. The boldest 1798/7 overdate and large '8' in the date join 13 stars to make this obverse distinctive. This reverse presents 13 stars above the eagle's head. Deep silver-gray circles the peripheries on both sides, with the centers showing lighter silver with some tantalizing traces of iridescent blue and rose.

Very Fine. The obverse of this piece is toned in a pale silver gray and light yellow. The reverse shows 14 stars above the eagle with dark gold and russet haloing the periphery and contrasting with light silver gray, gold, and pale blue at the center. Surfaces are somewhat rough with a general porosity to be found in most areas.

Toned with fiery orange-gold at the center of the obverse, with an inner ring of deeper teal blue, with the stars and edge a shade of lemon-yellow. Lighter on the reverse, with varying shades of iridescence mixed with steel-gray. A decent strike displays the expected definition clearly. Identifiable by a trivial edge scrape near the right wing tip another a bit right of the eagle's tail....  more

Very Fine. Dark gray fields with lighter silver on the devices. This is the usual later die state with evidence of heavy clashing in the fields. The surfaces are a bit rough near the rims, but the coin retains a decent appearance for the grade. The tops of the peripheral devices are weak in areas from wear, typical of this date. NGC VF25.
