Still and all, a problem-free, appealing coin for the date collector who demands more than an average specimen. 1516 1925 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $220.00 - lustrous and lightly toned on the obverse, blotchy on the reverse; 1926'D' Detail of Extremely Fine, but buffed to simulate lustre; 1927 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, bordering on Gem, vibrant lustre with a couple of minute specks. 3 pieces. 1517 1925'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,200.00 - with claims to Gem. Strong lustre in the fields and bright, with only a hint of golden toning starting to form. A tad weak in the strike, as nearly always seen as die life was extended greatly by softening the pressure used to strike these hard copper-nickel planchets. The reverse die was rotated approximately 30 degrees counter clockwise when this one was struck. 1518 1925'S' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,900.00 Bright and lustrous, with attractive surfaces. One thin line on the bison from a Gem grade, but pleasing and wholesome for the date collector. The strike is better than average, but not bold. 1519 1926 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $240.00 A blazing white coin that has vibrant lustre and clean surfaces. 1520 1927'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $350.00 - with claims to Gem. The strike is a tad lacking on the bison's head, but lustrous and generally attractive for the grade. Delicate iridescent toning adds to the appeal. 1521 1927'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $160.00 An average strike with softness on the high points, but lustrous. Hints of golden toning. 1522 1927'S' CH BU $225.00 About Uncirculated in terms of wear but lightly cleaned; 1929 Brilliant Uncirculated, nearly Choice, bright and well struck; 1928'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, lustrous with colorful reverse peripheral toning. 3 pieces. 1523 1928'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $110.00 Somewhat subdued lustre beneath gold and gray hues, with a hint of greenish iridescence. Excellent surfaces. 1528 1931'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $400.00 Rich olive and golden iridescence and quite attractive for this low-mintage date. Perfect for the fastidious collector who demands quality. 1529 1934 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $500.00 - on the cusp of Gem; 1934'D' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, but softly struck; 1937 Brilliant Uncirculated, nearly Choice; and 1937 About Uncirculated. 4 pieces. 1530 1935 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated; 1935'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated; 1935'S' CH BU $180.00 Choice About Uncirculated, virtually Mint State. A nice lustrous group. 3 pieces. 1531 1936 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $200.00 - virtually Gem; 1936'D' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated; frosty and white; 1936'S' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, virtually Gem. A select group. 3 pieces. 1532 1937 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,400.00 Bright with well preserved mirror fields and surfaces. Lacking the hairlines or spots often seen, and a delight to behold. A mere 5,769 were coined in Proof. 1533 1937 Reeded Edge. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $450.00 Bright and lustrous, with sharp and precisely imparted reeding around the entire edge. The late Walter Breen noted that these Reeded Edge Buffalo nickels made their debut at the 1941 American Numismatic Association convention in Philadelphia. It was believed that 100 or 104 were made for that event, along with Reeded Edge Lincoln Cents of the same date. The surfaces are wonderfully clean and attractive, and show just a couple of tiny handling nicks. For this important and highly collectible issue, the strike is decent, although softness is found on the Indian's head and portions of the bison.
