1935'D' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated obverse
|
CH BU |
$1,700.00 |
Choice Brilliant Uncirculated reverse. Blazing mint frost and lustre throughout, and a decent strike although not quite bold on the highest design elements. Examination finds a hint of a scuff on the lower obverse left of the date, and another on the central reverse, likely from storage in a bag for a time. |

1935'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$1,400.00 |
- the obverse is Superb. Another sharply struck coin that boasts vibrant mint lustre and strong eye appeal. Examination finds minor haze over the surfaces with a touch of peripheral russet toning. The fields and devices are virtually free of handling marks, although a couple of tiny hairlines near the center of the reverse limit this one from a Superb grade. It would be a challenge to... more |

1936 Very Choice Brilliant Proof
|
VERY CH BR PF |
$3,600.00 |
- virtually a Gem. White save for a fleck or two of orange-gold near the rims, particularly on the upper reverse. A couple of minute hairlines in the fields, and a trace of haze are the only other signs of time passing. An excellent coin for the collector, and the first year of Proofs after a long hiatus of Proof production at the Philadelphia Mint. For the year a total of 3,901 were struck,... more |

1936 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$75.00 |
- but for a dull hairline scratch crossing Liberty's head to the rim at the right. Hazy toning over lustre, generally white in color with a yellow tint. The strike is bold on Liberty's head, thumb and skirt lines. |
|
1425 |
1936'D' A glorious Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$420.00 |
- the obverse is Superb, the reverse nearly so. Glowing lustre throughout and generally well struck on the high points of the design. There is a hint of haze and some golden toning on the obverse, the reverse has a blush of haze and integral russet near the devices. One scuff on the back of the eagle's wing below the legend identifies this coin. Scarce and appealing for the grade. |
|
1426 |
1936'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$220.00 |
- despite a hint of striking weakness at the centers. Radiant mint lustre on the obverse and reverse, with a few flecks of russet on the upper reverse while the obverse remains bright. Minor softness on Liberty's thumb, but sharp on her head, mirrored by softness on the thigh and center of the eagle on the reverse. An impressive coin for the lustre, surfaces and appeal. |

1427 |
1937 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$800.00 |
Pale tan to gold toning near the rims, with a blanket of the usual haze caused by storage in the Mint cellophane wrappers. Bold and beautiful, with the watery reflective fields and needle-sharp devices. A mere 5,728 were coined, an insignificant number considering the demand today. |
|
1428 |
1937 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$850.00 |
Similar milky haze over much of the surfaces, with the desired reflective fields showing through. A trouble-free coin that has excellent surfaces, no distracting nicks or hairlines, and ample visual appeal. Always in strong demand by type and date collectors. |
|
1429 |
1937 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$80.00 |
Vibrant lustre and well struck as expected for this Philadelphia issue, with bluish-gold hues starting to form. One tiny rim boo-boo near Liberty's outstretched hand will identify this one. Exceptional eye appeal, even for this splendid collection. |
|
1430 |
1937 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$160.00 |
Boldly struck, lustrous and sparkling quality for the specialist. The fields and devices are very clean, and Liberty is sharp. Bright and untoned, and a worthy example of this common date. |
|
1431 |
1937'D' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$500.00 |
Another blazing, lustrous coin that exudes originality. Sharp on the skirt lines and head, but a tad weak on Liberty's thumb. Excellent surfaces and identifiable by a tiny tick on Liberty's arm near her exposed elbow. |
|
1432 |
1937'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$375.00 |
Frosty and bright, with a couple of tiny flecks of russet near the rim and a hint of haze over most of the surface. The strike is good, but central softness is present, stronger on Liberty's head and skirt. Clean with minimal signs of handling, and another desirable example of this ever-popular series. |
|
1433 |
1938 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$625.00 |
Watery fields surround the devices of this lovely coin. The surfaces are clean and free of problems, and the only complaint is a hint of the usual minor haze over the surfaces. No spots or similar detractions, and a premium example that anyone will appreciate. |
|
1434 |
1938 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$625.00 |
This one has beautiful delicate pinkish-gold toning over highly reflective fields. The surfaces are excellent and lack the usual hairlines or even signs of contact that are so often found on these early Proofs. Lacking the haze often seen, and thus brighter than the prior example. |
|
1435 |
1938 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$320.00 |
Frosty lustre and a decent strike although slight weakness is noted on Liberty's thumb. Lightly toned with russet and gold, but bright silver in appearance to the eye. Great surfaces as expected for the grade. |
|
1436 |
1938'D' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$1,200.00 |
Always in demand in high grades, the present coin boasts creamy white lustre with a dusting of peripheral russet-gold. The surfaces are clean and attractive, and the strike better than average although Liberty's thumb is a trifle weak. Identifiable by a few tiny ticks on the lower wing which are somewhat hidden by the feather details. Mintage plunged to only 491,600 for the year. |
|
1437 |
1939 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$700.00 |
Hints of gold over the radiant reflective surfaces are the only hints of age on the present Gem. Outstanding quality which is so seldom seen today, and always in fervent demand. Both sides have the usual thin haze which developed over time from the original Mint cellophane wrapper. Mintage in Proof climbed to 8,808 for the year. |
|
1438 |
1939 Brilliant Proof
|
BR PF |
$550.00 |
- virtually Choice. Another example of this date. Bright white and lacking the usual thin haze on the surfaces, but minor hairlines are present. No other signs of handling and still an appealing coin. |
|
1439 |
1939 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$160.00 |
A blazing Gem which boasts delicate gold peripheral toning and strong lustre. Sharply impressed by the dies, including Liberty's thumb, and the reverse devices are outlined with specks of russet-gold near the rims. Desirable in every way. |
|
1440 |
1939'D' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$180.00 |
Boldly executed by the dies and starting to tone with pleasing light gold with a patch of colorful iridescence near the lower rim. Slightly cloudy from a thin layer of haze, but this scarcely diminishes the appeal. A scarce date so well preserved. |
|
1441 |
1939'S' Brilliant Uncirculated
|
BU |
$80.00 |
Frosty and attractive, with soft gray lustre and a hint of toning. The strike is typically weak on the head and hand of Liberty, and thigh of the eagle. |
|
1442 |
1940 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$450.00 |
Rather typical for the period, with delicate haze over the reflective mirror surfaces, but lacking the spots or detractions which are so often found. An impressive example for the collector, and par for the course of the 11,279 minted. The surfaces are wonderfully free of detractions like hairlines or handling nicks. |
|
1443 |
1940 Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$450.00 |
A crisply executed coin that has the usual hazy gray toning over well mirrored surfaces. Problem-free and a delight for the collector who appreciates the regal quality of these early Proofs. |
|
1444 |
1940 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$90.00 |
Vibrant white surfaces with a hint of haze and a couple of minute peripheral russet specks. The strike is generally sharp for this date. |
|
1445 |
1940'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$220.00 |
The strike could be a trifle sharper, otherwise this coin would be Superb. Outstanding lustre and surfaces, and totally white. |
|
1446 |
1941 With Designer's Initials. Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$500.00 |
These are scarcer with the initials than without according to Breen. Lovely iridescent hints on both sides from the hazy white toning from the original packaging. A high wire edge surrounds both sides. Excellent surfaces and good eye appeal. |
|
1447 |
1941 No Designer's Initials. Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$440.00 |
Bright and untoned, and lacking all but a trace of the usual paper haze on the surfaces. The strike is bold on all the high points, and the examination will find traces of handling on the eagle's thigh and breast. Apparently the designer's initials were polished off the die when it was being finished for the coining process. |
|
1448 |
1941 No Designer's Initials. Gem Brilliant Proof
|
GEM BR PF |
$420.00 |
Another example struck from highly polished dies, enough so to not only remove the designer's initials, but also to weaken Liberty's foot and other devices. Yellowish-haze on both sides and highly reflective, with the appearance generally bright. The majority of the 1941 Proof Half Dollars lack the designer's initials. |
|
1449 |
1941 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$90.00 |
Boldly struck and attractive for the iridescent glaze of toning, and satiny lustre. A couple of ticks from a higher grade. |
|
1450 |
1941'D' Superb Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
SUP GEM BU |
$100.00 |
Soft golden lustre and reasonably sharp, although Liberty's hand is a touch weak. Refreshingly original. |
