Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1852 1796 John Reich 1 (R-3) AU $8,250.00 About Uncirculated. Pale lilac gray color gives this coin a distinctive look. Just a touch of light rub is confined to the highest points. Satiny mint lustre can be found in the protected areas. A beautiful example of the first year of U.S. Dimes and a scarce two-year type. Draped Bust, Large Eagle Reverse Dimes Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1853 1801 JR-1 (R-4) AB EF $2,000.00 About Extremely Fine. Deep gold and iridescent blue toning over lightly granular surfaces. There are also some rust pits as is normal with this variety. The strike is mediocre but the overall appearance is still somewhat decent. 1854 1805 JR-2. 4 Berries. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $3,600.00 - or nearly so. Medium gold and blue on the obverse with the reverse exhibiting a frosty center with deep blue about the edge. Some reverse mint-made adjustment marks in the center and a few hidden tics in Miss Liberty's hair are this coin's main detriments. A decent strike enhances this pleasing coin's appearance. 1855 1805 JR-2. 4 Berries. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $2,400.00 This obverse displays an electric blue and rose center contrasting with a frosty silver reverse for outstanding eye appeal. Capped Bust Dimes Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1856 1820 JR-13. Double-peak 1. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,700.00 - or nearly so. Bright lustre complements a strong strike. This die state shows a bulge on the right side of the obverse. Logan-McCloskey call MS-60 the finest grade. 1857 1828 JR-2 (R-3). Large Date. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,600.00 - or virtually so. Catalogued as Brilliant Uncirculated in our 1973 sale of the Reed Hawn collection, this specimen exhibits just a touch of friction to the high points. Centers are frosty silver, while deeper russet-gray toning coalesces towards the peripheries of this scarce close collar issue. Brilliant Proof BR PF $2,500.00 The most powerfully impressed devices stand out against fields that show both mirror reflectivity and dusky iridescent toning, especially on the obverse. The reflectivity is not that expected of a 20th century Proof, but these earlier Proof or Specimen strikings are rather motley in quality. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,200.00 Pale silver centers with light blue toning on the rim. The strike is quite strong and adds to the appeal of this lovely coin. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $200.00 A pale silver example with just a touch of golden toning beginning near the date. A well struck example of this first year issue for the type. Barber Dimes Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1861 1896'O' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,800.00 A lustrous coin with light attractive toning near the obverse rims. The reverse is mostly pale gray but shows some sea green and rose tones through the wreath and near the rims. This issue has the second lowest mintage of any business strike in the series and is quite difficult to locate this nicely preserved. 1862 1906'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $350.00 - with claims to Choice. A pale silver gray coin with russet, blue and rose tones at the peripheries. Well struck with nary a mark. 1863 1915'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $275.00 - with claims to Gem. A lovely golden toned specimen with lovely appeal; 1917 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. This lustrous example is pale gray with hints of golden overtones. 3 pieces. 1865 1916'D' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $37,000.00 Here is an amazing example of this important key date. The strike is needle sharp and the coin exhibits Full Split Bands. Blazing lustre gives this coin tremendous eye appeal. The coin displays pleasing originality with pale gray surfaces that show a hint of russet toning at the upper obverse. A wondrous specimen that would be near impossible to improve upon. 1866 1917'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $300.00 Here is a frosty pale gray example with lovely mark-free surfaces. Well struck, but the bands are just short of being fully split. 1868 1918 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $325.00 A lustrous coin with split bands and lovely pastel blue toning framing the obverse; 1918'D' Brilliant Uncirculated. A frosty strike with some typical strike weakness; 1918'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. A nice coin that is just a few minor ticks from a higher grade. 3 pieces. 1869 1919 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $260.00 Frosty with some russet tones at the right reverse rim. Well struck with Full Split Bands; 1919'D' Brilliant Uncirculated but altered. A lovely coin that someone unfortunately altered to create artificially split bands; 1919'S' Choice About Uncirculated. A lovely coin that most likely has received a light dipping at some point. 3 pieces. 1870 1920 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $360.00 Frosty with Full Split Bands; 1920'D' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Nicely struck overall with nearly full split bands; 1920'S' About Uncirculated. A few very light scratches keep this coin from the Choice category. 3 pieces. 1871 1921 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $2,600.00 - and virtually Gem. An attractive well struck coin with Full Split Bands. The right reverse exhibits light harvest colored toning. 1872 1921'D' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $2,000.00 A coin with satiny lustre with touches of vibrant rose and lime toning near the lower obverse rim. An advanced die state with a thin die crack running from 12:00 straight down through the center of Liberty's cap. 1873 1923 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $450.00 Bright and frosty with some deep toning near the date. Full Split Bands demonstrate a bold strike; 1923'S' Brilliant Uncirculated. A nearly Choice coin with Split Bands and lovely reddish golden toning at the lower obverse; 1924 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Frosty pale gray with some dark toning near the date and Liberty's neck. Another well struck coin with Full Split Bands. 3 pieces. 1874 1924'D' CH AU $260.00 About Uncirculated, 1924'S' Choice About Uncirculated. Both coins are pale gray with some areas of attractive russet toning. 2 pieces. 1875 1928'D' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Full Bands VERY CH BU $400.00 - although not fully rounded. Delicate gold toning over pleasing surfaces. A nice example of this difficult middle date. 1876 1942/1 EF $750.00 Extremely Fine. A pleasing pale gray example. Just light wear is found on this wholesome coin and there are no marks worthy of mention. An excellent example of the popular overdate. 1877 1942/1 EF $700.00 Extremely Fine. Some light toning over mainly silver surfaces. The overdate is strong as is usual. Well struck overall and nice for the grade. 1878 1942/1 VF $375.00 Very Fine. A few light facial marks, otherwise a decent coin that has deep ebony toning. 1879 1942/1 AB F $440.00 About Fine. Here is a problem-free and very satisfying example of this rare and extremely popular World War II overdate. 1880 1942'D', 1942'S', 1943, 1943'D', 1943'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $450.00 A magnificent group of high grade Mercury Dimes. The first and last two examples show Full Split Bands. The last coin shows lovely toning at the right obverse rim. 5 pieces. 1881 1944'P,D,S', 1945'P,D,S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $100.00 A stellar grouping of lustrous Dimes. The first two examples display Full Split Bands. The last coin has incredible color. All coins in this group have tremendous eye appeal. 6 pieces.
