Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1304 1850 CH AU $3,500.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Attractive greenish-gold toning over semi-prooflike surfaces. Strongly struck with good lustre. Such high grade examples of this first collectable Double Eagle date are quite scarce and are always in high demand. 1305 1850'O' AU $3,400.00 About Uncirculated or nearly so. A pleasing example of this New Orleans Double Eagle. Yellow gold lustre adorns lightly worn devices. Although boldly struck, the mint mark is visible, but somewhat weak, as is usual. Here is a lovely specimen of this inaugural New Orleans Double Eagle issue. 1306 1852'O' CH AU $9,750.00 Choice About Uncirculated, approaching a Mint State designation. Well struck and offering full icy mint frost beneath a delicate shade of yellow-gold. The fields and devices reveal the usual degree of surface disturbance, however there are no imperfections that warrant individual mention. Full Mint State examples of this date are very rare, and even high grade About Uncirculated specimens...  more 1307 1853 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $6,250.00 - or somewhat finer. The sharpest strike that might be desired brings out the best in this then-new Longacre design. All devices are precisely detailed, and are highlighted by smooth fields awash in the same delightful bright yellow-gold lustre. The overall visual quality must be called splendid. NGC MS61. 1308 1853'O' CH AU $5,750.00 Choice About Uncirculated. A lovely greenish-gold patina gives this coin nice appeal. The strike is adequate and the lustre shows through from under the toning. Scarce, with only 71,000 pieces struck. 1309 1853'O' CH AU $12,000.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Flashy reflective surfaces that have nice lustre. There is a moderate amount of abrasion in the field due to light circulation. Well struck. Given a mintage of only 71,000 pieces,and the intense circulation seen by these early branch mint issues, a high grade survivor of this scarcity is truly a sight to behold. 1310 1854'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $10,000.00 A superbly struck coin that retains a lovely satiny glow. Close examination reveals all devices, lettering and stars quite sharply. The reverse has a few minor die cracks at the lower left. Here is a lovely example of this first San Francisco mint issue. 1311 1861 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $3,400.00 - with claims to a higher grade. Lovely orange-gold toning over frosty surfaces. The strike is full. There are a couple of tiny rim tics that do not detract much from this coin's wonderful eye appeal. 1312 1861 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $4,750.00 A well struck and lustrous example that has the initial look and eye appeal of a much higher grade coin. Upon closer inspection there are some hairlines visible due to a light cleaning. Here is a coin that still retains excellent eye appeal. 1313 1866'S' No Motto CH EF $15,000.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Superficial wear is to be seen on the highest points of the design. The forcefully impressed reliefs are surrounded by ample halos of surviving lustre. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated and a simply stunning specimen! Full glassy-mirrored fields envelope wonderfully rich cameo legends and design elements. There is some abrasion in the fields which is typical of this western mint's coins. A small facial mark is this coin's main detraction. Very rare as there were only 17,387 pieces struck. 1316 1873 Open 3. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $6,000.00 Satiny surfaces with coppery gold lustre highlight this most attractive specimen. Needle sharp devices add to this coin's visual appeal. 1317 1873'CC' CH AU $22,500.00 Choice About Uncirculated and only a whisper away from a full Mint State classification. A glow of satin-frost bathes either side. Though technically not Uncirculated, the visual presentation of this specimen is far superior to that of the majority of the small number of known Mint State pieces, as the surface quality is significantly better than the norm. Would be Choice if not for a few trivial obverse scuffs. 1319 1879'O' CH AU $16,000.00 Choice About Uncirculated, a high quality example that is virtually Mint State in terms of wear. Canary yellow surfaces are bright from a past light dipping, reverse surfaces are flashy and lightly prooflike with bold detail and absolutely minimal wear. The obverse is somewhat prooflike, with slightly more friction in the fields and at the high points. A few trivial obverse scuffs are hardly a distraction. PCGS MS62. 1321 1888'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,600.00 - and on the cusp of fully Choice. Deeply gleaming red-gold mint lustre drenches the sharp devices and reflective fields of this handsome example. Field marks are minimal and do not impact this coin's overall beauty and appeal. PCGS MS62. 1322 1889'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,900.00 Splendid lustre, wonderfully smooth fields and meticulous devices combine to give this San Francisco coin its significant beauty. 1323 1891 BU $11,000.00 Essentially Brilliant Uncirculated with respect to wear. Closer examination, however, reveals evidence of very skillful smoothing at Liberty's cheek as well as at the rims on either side. The overall appearance is nonetheless cosmetically appealing, as the fields exhibit semi-reflectivity and the devices are well struck. A gentle shade of coppery-orange peripheral obverse toning completes the presentation....  more 1324 1897 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,700.00 A boldly struck coin that is coupled with satisfying amber surfaces. 1325 1900 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,200.00 Sunset orange surfaces enhance the fully struck obverse and reverse. 1326 1900 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,200.00 Lovely greenish-gold toning over well preserved surfaces. A very attractive example that is suitable for the type collector. 1327 1900 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $550.00 - and nearly of Choice quality. A few facial marks over orange gold toning. 1328 1902 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $2,000.00 An impressive sunset orange patina is boldly apparent on both obverse and reverse. Close examination reveals sharply detailed stars, numerals and lettering. A most satisfying example of this somewhat elusive date. PCGS MS62. 1329 1903 Impaired Proof PF $4,250.00 Here is a moderately circulated coin that exhibits some abrasion and two reverse solder marks that could be from a broach or a belt buckle. The proof surface still shines though and there is a strong wire rim on the obverse. One of only 158 proofs made with many of this date found mishandled. 1330 1904 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,100.00 - and virtually worthy of Gem status. Satiny mint frost bathes both obverse and reverse. Fully struck details add to this lot's eye appeal. 1331 1904 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,600.00 A virtual Gem defined by smooth cheek and fields, full yellow lustre of the greatest appeal. 1332 1904 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $2,000.00 A pristine example of a Liberty Head Double Eagle. Superb yellow gold lustre highlights vibrant devices. 1333 1904 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,800.00 Stunning prooflike reflectivity combines with blazing orange-peel lustre resulting in a superb visual effect.
