Wear is best described as remarkably moderate, with traces of lustre remaining in the protected areas. This graceful early bust is noteworthy for its sharply curved truncation, giving the earliest dates their definitive status and appeal. 1483 1850 Large Date CH AU $950.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Very light friction on the high points is hardly apparent on this early Eagle. All lettering, numerals and stars are quite distinct. 1484 1851 AU $280.00 About Uncirculated. Fields and reliefs show remarkably little wear, brightly golden fields display a complement of swirling hairlines visible under a glass. Large pockmarks are noted above the eagle's head. 1485 1852 AU $600.00 Strong About Uncirculated. This coin is very boldly struck and richly detailed throughout. Examination under a glass shows a few scattered tics on the fascinating frosty-matte surfaces that suggest the ''Salt-water Uncirculated'' coins recovered from Florida or Carolina shipwreck sites. Some light hairlines are present, but the coin has a very good appearance and should be viewed. 1487 1853 CH EF $550.00 Choice Extremely Fine. A honey gold coin with just a touch of gentle wear. 1488 1853 CH EF $340.00 Choice Extremely Fine. An attractive pale yellow example with satiny lustre in the protected areas. 1489 1855'O' CH EF $2,200.00 Choice Extremely Fine and approaching About Uncirculated. Bright lemon yellow surfaces display even the most minute details from a bold striking. No major marks or distractions are noted, although there is evidence of a gentle wiping long ago. The product of a mintage of just 18,000 pieces, this issue is rare in all grades above Very Fine. 1490 1856 CH AU $950.00 Choice About Uncirculated. A lovely coin on the cusp of a higher designation. Champagne gold lustre enhances the vibrant features. 1491 1860'S' Brilliant Uncirculated F to CH AU $32,000.00 - or virtually so. The fields exhibit dramatic prooflike flash with perhaps a minute tic or two. All devices are full and crisply defined for additional assertive visual appeal. The most careful study finds traces of a light cleaning at some time. One of 5,000 struck at San Francisco just before the Civil War. Yellow-gold surfaces offer traces of original lustre, moderate circulation with a wealth of bold detail. This desirable wartime date saw only 1,218 business strikes and 30 Proofs produced. Akers' research showed more Proofs appearing at auction than highest grade business strikes. This pleasing example of a classic low-mintage Carson City date is one of only 5,909 struck and represents the highest grade usually encountered today. Both the James A. Stack and Louis Eliasberg specimens were also Very Fine, and this piece compares very favorably to them. Orange-peel radiance creates a pleasing visual appeal. 1495 1880 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $320.00  A handsome, delicate rose-golden specimen. The fields and devices are drenched in satin-frost, and the eye appeal is noticeably finer than the norm. 1496 1880, 1905 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $550.00 An attractive pair of coins with just a hint of rub. 2 pieces. 1497 1880'S' AU $500.00 Extremely Fine; 1899 About Uncirculated and Choice but for some tiny rim nicks. The earlier date shows normal circulation, the second shows deeply reflective tawny gold. 2 pieces. 1498 1880'S' AU $525.00 About Uncirculated or thereabouts with respect to wear. Signs of light to moderate cleaning; 1907 About Uncirculated. Frosted surfaces are bright from a past cleaning. 2 pieces. 1499 1881 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $475.00 Orange-peel lustre is coupled with wonderfully struck details. A most pleasing visual effect is the result. 1500 1881 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $700.00 A magnificent yellow gold example with fresh mint lustre. 1501 1881, 1904 CH AU $500.00 Choice About Uncirculated. The first coin was lightly brushed at some time, the second bears some hairlines on its lustrous surfaces. 2 pieces. 1502 1881'CC' AU $1,500.00 About Uncirculated. Substantial lustre and smooth fields provide unmistakable visual quality, but a hint of wiping can be found on this coin's surfaces. 1503 1882 CH AU $3,250.00 Circulated Proof, detail of Choice About Uncirculated. Although both surfaces retain prooflike reflectivity, this coin shows the effects of brief circulation wear to its delicate Proof surfaces. Given a mintage of only 40 pieces, this is still a very rare item and would make an affordable alternative to a high end example. 1504 1882, 1897 EF to CH EF $500.00 Extremely Fine to Choice Extremely Fine. This pair of yellow gold coins are just mildly circulated and display mint lustre in the protected areas. 2 pieces. 1505 1882'CC' EF $1,700.00 Extremely Fine. Circulation is moderate and uncomplicated on this satisfying example of a Carson City mintage of only 10,820. Researchers such as David Akers concluded years ago that Extremely Fine was the effectively highest grade most collectors should ever expect to see. 1506 1885'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $700.00 - nearly Choice. Cartwheel lustre over medium yellow-gold toning. A bold strike gives this coin added eye appeal. Totally original and lovely. 1507 1886'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $360.00 - with claims to the Choice category. Assertive bright gold lustre enhances a strong strike, a few light marks offer little visual distraction. 1508 1887 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $700.00 - and nearly Choice. Satiny lustre bathes this light pinkish gold coin. 1509 1888 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,700.00 - on the thin edge of fully Choice. Vivid cartwheel gleam is undeterred by a few trivial surface tics in the red-gold lustre. NGC MS62. 1510 1889'S' AU $320.00 About Uncirculated. A lightly toned example that shows a strong strike and mostly clean fields. 1511 1891'CC' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $625.00 Frosty surfaces that have a great strike. A minimum amount of marks give this coin even greater appeal. A few light hairlines due to a gentle wiping but overall a very good coin for the Carson City Mint collector.
