Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1321 1854 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $2,000.00 - or perhaps a bit finer. Lovely cartwheel gleam markedly increases the visual impact of a meticulous strike. The crisp clarity of the wreath and small DOLLARS remind the collector that this date is really its own distinctive sub-type. Here is a coin of unquestionable beauty and significant appeal. 1322 1854 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,600.00 A virtually pristine example with the look of a Gem at first glance but a closer look reveals signs of a past cleaning. Still an attractive coin with a bold strike and a good deal of lustre remaining. 1323 1854'O' CH VF $2,750.00 Choice Very Fine. A lightly cleaned example with bright surfaces that exhibit some moderate contact marks. A very difficult date in the series. 1324 1856'S' CH VF $900.00 Choice Very Fine. Typical contact is confined to the high points. Perhaps lightly cleaned some time ago. 1325 1857 VF $500.00 Very Fine. This lemon yellow example is not heavily worn but does display a couple of pinscratches at the obverse. 1326 1857'S' CH VF $2,600.00 Choice Very Fine. A coin that shows evidence of a past cleaning. Greenish-gold toning over a good strike. Some contact marks as to be expected with this grade. One of only 14,000 pieces struck. 1327 1859 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $3,000.00 - on the threshold of fully Choice. Marvelous prooflike flash emboldens the smooth fields and lightly frosted reliefs. Close study under a glass reveals some exceedingly fine hairlines of minimal visual importance. ACG MS62DMPL. 1328 1860 CH AU $800.00 Choice About Uncirculated in strict terms of wear. Substantial lustre adds to the coin's visual appeal but careful examination finds short but measurable pinscratches on either side. 1329 1864 Br.6370. Recut 18. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $6,000.00 - and close to Choice. Both the '1' and '8' are boldly repunched on this significantly rare variety. A delightfully sharp strike, virtually prooflike fields and a few hairlines sum up this coin's visual attractions. The late Walter Breen theorized that a very small fraction of an already small total mintage of 2,630 were of this distinctive variety, which is in increasingly great demand...  more 1330 1864 CH AU $3,000.00 Choice About Uncirculated, not far from full Mint State. Circulation, while present, is essentially undetectable on this delightfully lustrous example of a business strike mintage of 2,630 pieces. Close study reveals traces of a light cleaning in the distant past, which offers only minimal visual distraction. 1331 1867 CH AU $2,000.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Here is a lemon yellow specimen that is well struck and pleasingly reflective. A couple of nearly unnoticeable rim disturbances do little to affect the eye appeal of this attractive example. From a mintage of just 2,600 pieces. 1332 1867 EF $1,300.00 Extremely Fine. Wear is light and problem-free, with delicate red-gold outlining the reliefs in counterpoint to the deep yellow fields. One of 2,600 business strikes produced and an ideal addition to any high quality Type or date collection. 1333 1869 EF $1,100.00 Extremely Fine. An attractive wheat gold coin that retains a touch of mint lustre in the protected areas around the devices. 1334 1870 EF $1,200.00 Extremely Fine. Lustre around the reliefs gives vitality to this lightly circulated example of a business strike issue of 3,500 pieces. Breen asserted that most surviving examples of this elusive date are Extremely Fine. 1335 1874 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,750.00 Flashy surfaces exude full mint lustre. The strike is moderate and there are some light contact marks visible on both sides. 1336 1874 CH AU $1,500.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Attractive mint lustre over surfaces that were well protected for the grade. A lamination on the upper left reverse in the leaves. 1337 1874 AU $1,000.00 About Uncirculated. Light amber tones fill the protected areas of the obverse lettering, while light wheat-gold lustre dominates the rest of the coin. A glass reveals a very thin, well hidden old scratch near 'B' of LIBERTY. 1338 1874 CH EF $680.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Here is a very acceptable example of one of the two later dates struck in numbers suggesting normal circulation. Surfaces are pleasing, rims show scattered tiny nicks. 1339 1874 EF $600.00 Extremely Fine. Lustre is seen around the bold reliefs, fields are generally smooth and close examination reveals tiny obverse rim cuts at 2:00. 1340 1874 EF $375.00 Extremely Fine in terms of overall detail. Surfaces show effects of jewelry polish, reverse shows effects of solder removal. 1341 1878 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $4,250.00 - with claims to Choice. This pale yellow gold example glistens with frosty mint bloom. The strike is quite bold, imparting even the most minute details. A beautiful coin that has no major marks or distractions worthy of mention. 1342 1878 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $2,200.00 - nearly Choice. Satiny mint lustre dances over the surfaces of this pleasing beauty. A well struck example with pleasant pale wheat gold color. A lovely specimen from a short lived series that is always popular among collectors. 1343 1878 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,100.00 Shimmering lustre covers both sides and a glass locates a pin scratch across the lower obverse. Here is a highly presentable example eminently fitted for a place in any high quality Type or date collection. 1344 1878 CH AU $900.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Minimal circulation joins plentiful lustre, careful examination reveals light marks below the wreath tie on the reverse. 1345 1878 AU $750.00 About Uncirculated. Coppery toning within the devices accompanies some light field hairlines. The detail is strong for the grade and some protected lustre remains. 1346 1880 AU $3,250.00 About Uncirculated. This lovely yellow gold example shows just the lightest of wear and retains a good deal of protected lustre. A difficult date to locate due to the low mintage of just 1,000 coins. 1347 1887 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $3,500.00 - on the threshold of fully Choice. Full sparkling lustre complements a sharp impression of the dies. Close study reveals bold doubling on the letters of LIBERTY and a wealth of feather and cereal wreath detail help create total visual appeal. One of 6,000 business strikes produced of this desirable late date. 1348 1887 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,800.00 Free of actual wear, this crisply detailed example of 6,000 business strikes shows the effects of a past cleaning in its smooth fields.
