- on the truncation of the bust. Choice About Uncirculated and very close to a full Mint State classification. Nicely struck, yellow-golden surfaces retain a full measure of icy mint frost. Very scarce and quite worthy of a significant premium. In fact, mint records indicate that only 1,000 pieces were struck. The survival rate, however, seems higher than would be supported by a mintage...  more
1102 1849'D' Open Wreath EF $2,250.00

Extremely Fine. This coin's fields are remarkably lustrous, light wear can be found on the high points. A glass reveals some minor obverse scratches that are well hidden by the stars. One of only 21,588 struck of this first Dahlonega date and a worthy representative for date or Type collection.
1103 1849'O' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $310.00

Splendid light canary-yellow gold saturates both sides of this meticulous strike. An old scratch can be discovered in the right obverse field. The reverse shows the lower wreath, date and 'O' somewhat less sharply detailed, probably from forceful die polish.
1104 1850, 1856 Slant 5. Type III. EF $260.00

Extremely Fine. The first coin shows a dull surface, the companion was polished and shows some reverse scratches. 2 pieces.
1105 1850'C' EF $950.00

Extremely Fine. One of 6,966 struck and a vividly detailed example with only moderate wear. The 'T' in UNITED appears joined to the berry just below it, thanks to the forceful impression of the legend into the die.
1106 1850'D' AU $850.00

About Uncirculated. This honey gold example displays a good deal of lustre but is slightly warped and marked. An acceptable Dahlonega Dollar from a mintage of just 12,148 pieces.
1107 1851 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $425.00

Virtually flawless surfaces are drenched in bright yellow-gold lustre of the greatest purity. Several stars show flower-like configuration with their centrils blending into the smooth field. The reverse is essentially pristine.

Extremely Fine and Choice About Uncirculated, the latter once dipped. 2 pieces.
1109 1851'C' AU $300.00

1110 1851'C' EF $220.00

Extremely Fine in actual circulation, but the surface has been tooled at 11:00, the edges show subtle shaving and clipping.
1111 1851'C' VF $300.00

Very Fine in terms of wear, but a coin showing altered surfaces and some rim damage from some form of jewelry application.

This example retains most of the lustre in the fields and has good eye appeal. Both dies show the usual clash marks in the fields, and the date is sharp. Splashes of coppery-gold toning are present on both sides. Always in demand for this short-lived type coin that never goes out of style. NGC MS61.
1121 1854 CH AU $500.00

Choice About Uncirculated. This example offers a decent strike and nearly full detail including a precise LIBERTY on the headband.
1122 1854 CH AU $230.00

Very Fine. Mustard yellow but neatly holed for suspension; 1901 Quarter Eagle. Choice About Uncirculated. A lustrous example that is quite close to Mint State. 2 pieces.

An attractive example which is given a wonderful look by the high degree of satiny mint bloom. A pleasing and wholesome example of this scarcer type. NGC MS61.
1124 1855 CH AU $425.00

Choice About Uncirculated. Substantial red-gold lustre shows the limitations of actual circulation experienced by this pleasing, high quality example of a popular type. Light planchet wave and die clash further define this specimen.
1125 1855 EF $170.00

Extremely Fine in strict terms of wear. This coin shows bold die clash, obverse polish from jewelry use.
1126 1855'C' CH VF $2,000.00

Choice Very Fine. Moderate wear, red-gold toning coalescing at the rims and around the well-defined reliefs. Careful examination reveals a whisper of unobtrusive obverse rim filing.
1127 1855'C' VF $425.00

Very Fine or better. Frosty-granular surfaces and a slightly wavy planchet join precise legend and Charlotte mintmark. This example verifies David Akers' comments about ''poor planchets and poor quality of striking'' that make this Branch Mint issue notorious and make the grading of surviving examples decidedly complicated.

1128 1856 Slant 5 CH AU $135.00

Choice About Uncirculated, on the cusp of Mint State. Light yellow gold surfaces are a trifle dull from a light wiping.
1129 1856 Slant 5 AU $150.00

About Uncirculated. Amber gold surfaces reveal light contact on the obverse hair strands.
1130 1856 Slant 5 AU $175.00

A very strong About Uncirculated specimen and approaching the Mint State category. Satiny mint bloom beneath delicate toning. Close scrutiny of the reverse yields the presence of a well concealed hairline scratch between the rim and the denticles at 3:00.
