Well struck with some hairlines due to a past gentle cleaning but overall the coin has a wonderfully satisfying appearance. A mere 63,131 pieces were struck of this date. 1480 1842 AU $400.00 About Uncirculated. Appealing deep gold shows a suffusion of light red, a number of contact tics and some reverse edge roughness around 2:00. 1481 1848 AU $250.00 About Uncirculated, and in fact finer in terms of wear. Deep amber-gold surfaces exhibit a slightly grainy texture and light marks as a result of improper storage or some chemical treatment. A seldom offered date and a survivor of just 145,484 pieces struck. 1482 1852 CH VF $270.00 Choice Very Fine. Red-gold outlines and accentuates the reliefs and devices, creating an interesting visual suggestion of higher grade. 1483 1853 AU $275.00 About Uncirculated and a choice example of the grade. All devices are wonderfully bold, fields are smooth with one or two inconsequential marks of no visual importance. 1484 1857 CH EF $500.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Amber-gold lustre haloes the stars and devices on this rich wheat gold toned specimen. 1485 1857'S' CH AU $5,000.00 Choice About Uncirculated, a whisper from full Mint State. Faint rub can be discerned under a glass, though both strike and wealth of lustre set this appealing coin apart from most survivors of its era. The lightest handling gives this coin its impressive two-tone contrast of deep red-gold fields and sharply defined reliefs outlined in gold lustre. One of 13,500 struck, and a relatively high grade among the limited number of survivors. Dannreuther-Garrett note 46 auction appearances, only two in grades higher than this coin. Well struck with good lustre and surfaces. 1507 1902 AU $225.00 About Uncirculated or nearly so. Delicate coppery toning accompanies quite a bit of underlying mint frost. Only 82,513 pieces were coined of this uncommon date. 1508 1906'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $650.00 - or nearly so. Frosty surfaces are well struck and lustrous.
