This early die state shows the beginning of the die crack from 'Y' to the bridge of Liberty's nose, no berry appears under the eagle's left wing. Stars are placed 8 - 7 on this crisply detailed, largely lustrous obverse, microscopic traces of die rust recall Philadelphia's steamy summers. The reverse is strongly struck at right, becoming softer toward the left, possibly from improper canting of the dies. Broken top on the 'B' resembles a 'K' and gives this classic variety its name. This coin presents an early die state, showing a minutely detailed reverse motto scroll and fully visible PLURIBUS. The obverse shows subtle red-gold contrasting with caramel-russet at the borders. The reverse is relatively uncomplicated silver. Gently cleaned long ago. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $575.00 Tip of an arrow feather is directly in line with the tip of the '5' on this distinctive reverse. The obverse displays delicate glowing rose toning haloed in iridescent silver and blue. The reverse displays a wealth of pure, bright frosty silver. This coin is a striking example of the first Capped Bust date, ideal for any high quality date or type collection. 1187 1829 LM-16.2; 1830 LM-9.1 EF $150.00 Extremely Fine. First was heavily polished, companion lightly cleaned with some minor scratches. 2 pieces. 1188 1830 LM-6 (R-5). Dotted Date. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $600.00 - and approaching Gem. A bold raised die dot appears left of the base of the '1' in the date. Subtle pervasive rose is surrounded by iridescent silver with a touch of blue on this obverse, the reverse center is bright silver. LM observes that ''examples of this die marriage are particularly difficult to obtain in grades higher than EF.'' Here is a delightful exception to this rule. 1189 1831 LM 1.1 CH AU $220.00 Extremely Fine. This lovely example shows only light wear and is ringed in beautiful rainbow tones. This coin's delicately toned blue-green obverse contrasts with the boldly reflective silver on this sharply struck example of a busy date in Half Dime annals, a coin that would be difficult to duplicate for quality and appeal. 1192 1832 LM-3. Star 12 Repunched. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $360.00 Rich copper-red and vivid blue toning distinguish this sharply struck example. 1193 1833 LM-1 (R-3). Last 3 High. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $450.00 Last '3' in date is high, the reverse shows a small period after 5C. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $220.00 A subtly gold-toned obverse contrasts with a bold silver reverse on this pleasing example of the last Capped Bust date. A glass finds signs of a light cleaning performed at some point in the past, and the coin is now retoning in fascinating variegated light gold. Broad bands of ebony and gold surround bright silver centers. Lightly cleaned long ago. 1197 1838 No Drapery, Normal Stars. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $400.00 This virtual Gem's near-cameo contrast dramatizes the obverse with its frosty silver Liberty resting on a rich caramel and russet background. The reverse is silver-white with old-gold circling the periphery. Here is a very sharply struck near-Gem of exceptional overall visual appeal. 1198 1840 EF $50.00 Extremely Fine. Deep graphite-gray toning remains in the fields after a past dipping. 1199 1842 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $300.00 This vivid gold-toned obverse shows a high date, virtually against the base of Liberty. The reverse presents almost clear silver with a delightful wisp of clear gold. The pristine surfaces are mark-free and the colors are ''to die for.'' Rainbow tones abound, particularly bold are violet, ice blue and sunset orange. A stunning example. 1204 1861 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $60.00 - and near-Choice. Pleasing frosty silver lustre covers this reflective example of an important Civil War date. 1205 1862 Brilliant Uncirculated; 1872 CH AU $350.00 Choice About Uncirculated. The first coin is frosty silver with strong die clash, the second is pink-rose and iridescent blue. 2 pieces. 1206 1864'S' AU $300.00 Solid About Uncirculated. Faint evidence of brief circulation can be sought out with a glass.
