Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 3839 1851 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $500.00 Smooth satiny surfaces that have some mottled russet toning. The strike is decent except for the very central part of the obverse which is a tad weak. Still a very attractive example of this first year of issue of this denomination. 3840 1851 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $180.00 A bright and frosty coin that has excellent mint lustre. A few tiny marks are found with magnification but none too serious. Typical weakness of strike in the central obverse area. 3841 1852 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $180.00 - virtually Choice. A satiny coin with light golden toning over surfaces that exhibit some light hairlines. An excellent strike aids this coin's eye appeal. 3842 1854 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $140.00 Deep iridescent toning over satiny surfaces. Some tooling is noted at the left side of the date and some reverse digs near the edge. 3843 1858 Brilliant Proof BR PF $2,500.00 - nearly Choice. A bright coin with some light toning present. A moderate amount of hairlines do not detract that much from the beauty of this rare Proof that has an approximate mintage of only about 300 pieces. 3844 1859 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $800.00 Deep iridescent toning over nicely preserved surfaces. There are some very trivial hairlines but they do not detract. A lovely coin that will give pride to its new owner. 3845 1860 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,200.00 A marvelous coin with deep iridescent ring toning that will endear itself to its new owner. Some very light hairlines under the toning do not detract as this coin has the arm's length appearance of a Gem. 3846 1861 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $1,200.00 A deeply toned example that has decent surfaces for the grade. A few drops of lacquer are seen on both sides. 3847 1862 Brilliant Proof BR PF $230.00 - nearly Choice. A coin that exhibits deep gray and gold toning with some iridescent blue overtones. The strike is a little weak but not seriously. 3848 1863 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $2,400.00 A frosty white coin that has excellent cameo effect. The strike is great, giving this coin phenomenal eye appeal. A marvelous coin that was produced during the tumultuous times of the Civil War. One of only 460 Proofs struck. 3849 1863 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,400.00 A satiny coin with deep iridescent toning over marvelous surfaces. The strike is meticulous and the lustre peeks out from beneath the toning. Very rare as a business strike as most coins offered are Proofs, since there were only 21,000 business strikes produced. 3850 1864 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,300.00 A pretty coin with a beautiful blend of iridescent blue, pink and gold. Well struck with a tiny rim tic at the bottom obverse as this coin's main detraction. Still quite a respectable appearing coin. Scarce, with only 470 Proofs struck. 3851 1864 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $525.00 A deep blue coin with some light gold at the right obverse. Well struck and quite nice for the grade. One of only 470 Proofs struck, this pretty coin should enthrall most collectors. 3852 1865 Brilliant Proof BR PF $375.00 A medium gray toned coin that professes to have some moderate hairlines scattered on both sides. This piece still has a decent look for this last issue that was produced during the Civil War. 3853 1866 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $2,400.00 Lovely deep blue iridescent toning with a bit of rose-gold over very well preserved surfaces. Simply a handsome coin that is sure to please even the most fastidious collector. One of a mere 725 Proofs struck. 3854 1867 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,200.00 - and on the verge of a full Gem designation. Lovely iridescent blue toning frames light rose-gold in the center. A few reverse hairlines are all that keep this coin out of a higher grade. Quite appealing and worth a closer inspection. 3855 1868 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,000.00 Deep iridescent toning gives this coin its warm appeal. A splendid strike adds further to this coin's charm. One of only 600 Proofs struck, and a rather attractive specimen that will please its new caretaker. 3856 1869 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $2,200.00 Russet and gold centers framed by iridescent blue toning gives this coin a wonderful look. Add a strong strike and nice lustre and one would have to look a long time to find a better example of this late date. A mere 600 pieces were produced during this year. 3857 1870 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,300.00 Deep iridescent blue toning over decent surfaces. Some light die rust is visible on the obverse star. The strike is excellent, which gives this coin nice appeal. 3858 1871 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $4,000.00 - despite a couple of very tiny rim tics. The color is a remarkable iridescent blue with some hidden rose-gold toning present. The strike is wonderful, giving this coin a superb appearance. 3859 1872 Brilliant Proof BR PF $900.00 Lightly toned over well struck surfaces. A few obverse laminations are present but otherwise this coin has a decent appearance. 3860 1873 Closed 3. Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,700.00 A bright and highly reflective example that is well struck and has decent surfaces.
