Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 963 1793 Breen 3, Cohen 3 (R-3). Short 7, Low 'L,' Crowded Fraction F-12 $4,100.00 Fine-12 or thereabouts in terms of detail. Olive-brown surfaces show some microgranularity. The obverse is pleasingly bold with a well detailed bust, clear LIBERTY and very distinct date. High Relief Head, Heavy Wreath VF-20 $1,800.00 Very Fine-20. An exceptionally bold obverse is framed in a tall toothed border protecting a remarkably sharp LIBERTY, date and head. The reverse strike is less pronounced with a low rim allowing greater apparent wear on the outer legend. '1' in the fraction touches the left wreath tie. This coin displays a pleasing light tan patina. 965 1795 Br.1, C.1. With Pole, Lettered Edge VF-35 $500.00 Very Fine-35 with respect to actual wear. Liberty and her cap are delightfully bold against a porous reddish-brown field. This reverse exhibits a swathe of old greenish deposits in the wreath and along the right border. The edge device is strongly impressed. 966 1797 Br.3c, C.3a. Low Head, Plain Edge F-15 $550.00 Fine-15. Both sides show respectable detail, minor peripheral staining. Draped Bust Half Cents Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 967 1800 Br.1b, C.1 VF-25 $100.00 Very Fine-25 with respect to actual wear. Deep glossy brown with a very well-detailed strike, this coin boasts a richly glossy deep brown patina with a single ancient obverse pinscratch. 968 1802/0 Br.2, C.2 (R-3). Second Reverse VF-25 $1,500.00 Very Fine-25 in terms of actual circulation. The obverse is distinctly detailed with an old hairline scratch in the right field. This coin's reverse displays patches of old corrosion or deposits at the lower right. The 1802 date in general is always sought after, with most available specimens comprising the variety with the ''second reverse,'' and not the very rare variety exhibiting...  more 969 1804 Br.10, C.13. Plain 4, No Stems VF-30 $125.00 Very Fine-30. This coin is distinguished by a very bold strike and delightful glossy brown surfaces. An old mark or two can be seen in the left obverse field. 970 1805 Br.1, C.1. Medium 5, No Stems F-15 $90.00 Fine-15. Glossy deep brown fields and devices are delightfully problem-free, showing only normal, problem-free circulation appropriate to this grade. 971 1806 Br.3, C.1. Small 6, No Stems AU-53 $325.00 About Uncirculated-53. The point of the '6' nearly touches the truncation, the reverse is rotated 80 degrees for dramatic effect. Glossy deep brown with light wear, a few scattered ancient marks are located with a glass. 972 1807 Br.1, C.1 EF $100.00 Very Fine-35, close to Extremely Fine. Not fully struck at the centers as a result of the obverse convexity, delightfully glossy deep brown with minimal marks. 973 1808 Br.3, C.3. Normal Date EF-40 $110.00 Extremely Fine-40 or better. Wide Legend EF-45 $100.00 Extremely Fine-45. Pleasing glossy reddish-brown fields, boldly detailed devices give this coin its pleasing quality. A glass reveals scattered minor keg marks. 975 1810 B.1, C.1 CH EF $240.00 Extremely Fine-40. Chestnut-brown fields and design features are free of any defects requiring particular note; 1829 B.1, C.1. Choice Extremely Fine-45. There is a significant amount of surface life still evident beneath medium brown patina. Some trivial deposits are visible in isolated areas of the devices. 2 pieces. 976 1811 Br.2, C.2. (R-3). Close Date VF-25 $1,700.00 Very Fine-25 and perhaps a bit better. This reverse is measurably off-center, wear is trouble-free and complements this pleasing coin's remarkable glossy deep chestnut brown patina. The 1811 is scarcely offered, and when examples do come to market, they are rarely as finely preserved and eye appealingly smooth as the current specimen. Half Cents of this year have always attracted collector...  more 977 1825 B.2, C.1 EF-45 $130.00 Sharpness of Extremely Fine-45. There are numerous old hairline scratches beneath the patina on either side; 1828 B.3, C.2. 12 Star Obverse. Detail of Very Fine-20 or better. A quantity of tiny marks are visible on the edges; also included is a Draped Bust Half Cent dated 1803 B.1, C.1. Choice Very Good-10. Light roughness in the fields. 3 pieces. 978 1826 over Lazy 6. Br.2, C.2. (High R-3). Highest Leaf below 6 AU-50 $180.00 About Uncirculated-50. The underlying '6' was punched into the die on its back and partly effaced before the punching of the definitive digit. Delightful tan-brown patina distinguishes the smooth, glossy surfaces. Here is a specimen that is very high grade for the variety. 979 1832 B.1, C.1; 1834 B.1, C.1 AU-50 $140.00 A strong Extremely Fine-40 and About Uncirculated-50 respectively. The former exhibits a single minor reverse spot below the 'H' in HALF. The latter displays a few light reverse stains. 2 pieces. 980 1833 B.1, C.1 CH AU $200.00 Choice About Uncirculated-55. Sharp and for the most part, uniformly toned a pleasing medium brown. 981 1835 Br.2, C.2. Highest Leaf under Center of S. Mint State-60 MS-60 $675.00 - or possibly finer. Reflective light to medium brown surfaces gleam with bold underlying lustre to create the most remarkable quality. Here is the Classic Head type as it was supposed to look. Coronet Head Half Cents Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 982 1849 Br.1, C.1. Large Date. Mint State-60 MS-60 $800.00 - and possessing the appeal of a yet higher grade. Here is a thoroughly pleasing medium brown coin that boasts the most meticulous strike and exerting irresistible visual appeal. 983 1850 B.1, C.1 CH EF $230.00 Very Fine-25. Evenly worn; 1853 B.1, C.1. Choice Extremely Fine-45. Smooth surfaces. The strike could be a trifle sharper; 1856 B.1, C.1. Detail of About Uncirculated-50. Scattered light rim bruises. Some minor deposits are visible in areas of the devices. 3 pieces. 984 1851 Br.1, C.1. Mint State 60 (see below) $200.00 - or finer. Splendid light brown surfaces offer traces of smoldering mint red at the rims and in the recesses of the devices for exceptional visual quality and undeniable charm. 985 1854 Br.1, C.1. Mint State-60 MS-60 $280.00 This example of the sole variety of this late date displays satisfying reddish-brown surfaces and a wealth of razor-sharp detail resulting from a bold impression of the dies. 986 1855 Br.1, C.1. Mint State-63 MS-63 $700.00 Beautifully struck with jewel-sharp devices, stars and lettering, this coin displays smooth, light brown surfaces enlivened by much mint red around the exacting reliefs. 987 1857 Br.1, C.1. Dotted 'A' in AMERICA. Mint State-60 MS-60 $300.00 - and very close to the Choice category. Luxurious light brown is highlighted by substantial mint red coalescing around the razor-sharp reliefs.
