Rich brown surfaces display hints of faded mint color and a tiny mark or two in the obverse field. 846 1817 N.14. 13 Stars. Mint State-60 MS-60 $170.00 Lovely, smooth light brown with a toning dot in the left obverse field, crisply struck except for the lower obverse denticles. 847 1818 N.6. Bold Inner Circle AU-55 $325.00 About Uncirculated-55. Delightful light brown surfaces complement an exacting strike, the reverse shows some mild unevenness in the patina below CENT. 848 1819 N.8. Light reverse edge bumps are evident at 12:30 and 4:00; 1836 N.3. About Uncirculated-50. Mild speckling is visible on the obverse. 3 pieces. 850 1821 N.2. Wide Date VF-30 $900.00 Very Fine-30. The obverse displays a bold inner line. Moderate circulation is pleasingly free of distracting marks, surfaces are medium brown. 851 1822 N.10 AU-58 $500.00 About Uncirculated-58 in terms of wear. The strike is very full, and close examination finds faint scuffs on the neck, an obverse field mark or two and traces of an old deposit at the upper reverse legend. 852 1823 N.2. Normal Date F-15 $650.00 Fine-15. Boldly recut 'L' in LIBERTY, this die state shows a developing rim break above stars 5 and 6. This example of a scarce date and variety boasts deep brown surfaces showing uncomplicated wear and mild granularity. 853 1824 N.2. Close Date AU-50 $140.00 About Uncirculated-50 in terms of wear. Sharply struck and boldly detailed, reddish-brown surfaces show a pervasive light porosity. 854 1825 N.2 EF-40 $300.00 Extremely Fine-40. This pleasing deep brown coin displays moderate circulation with delicate hints of faded red at the rims. 855 1826 N.4; 1832 N.3. A very bold strike is obvious from the sharp rims. Surfaces are a delightful light brown with a bold undercurrent of faded mint red for bold appeal. 857 1829 N.8. Large Letters AU-50 $260.00 About Uncirculated-50. This medium brown example retains significant underlying surface vibrance. Some trivial color variation in the patina hardly detracts at all. 858 1833 N.6. Mint State-60 MS-60 $550.00 This handsome coin's meticulous strike yields splendid detail for all reliefs. Lightest brown surfaces are enriched by a definite suggestion of faded mint red. Fully Choice in almost every respect, but for an obverse toning spot at 1:30. 859 1834 N.5½ (R-5). Large 8 and Stars, Small Letters EF-45 $3,250.00 Extremely Fine-45. This extraordinary example of a very scarce variety offers a bold double profile in the forehead, lips and front of chin. A circling die crack connects the stars, the reverse is distinguished by a boldly recut 'E' in CENT. Glossy brown surfaces are quite reflective. 860 1835 N.5. Small 8 and Stars AU-50 $260.00 About Uncirculated-50. A glossy, uniformly toned chocolate-brown specimen. Smooth and quite satisfying. 861 1837 N.4. Plain Cord, Large Letters. Mint State-63 MS-63 $275.00 This outstanding coin combines a forceful strike with beautiful red-brown surfaces and full detail. A circling obverse die crack links stars 3 through 8. This is an ideal example of this important date and distinctive variety. 862 1838 N.8. Medium Date. Mint State-60 MS-60 $180.00 - with claims to higher grade. Pleasing saddle-brown surfaces and exacting detail create bold visual appeal, a glass discovers a few minute keg marks of minor significance, which have no effect on the coin's undeniable beauty. 863 1839 N.8. Petite Head EF-40 $140.00 Extremely Fine-40 or essentially so. Honest and quite appealing. Even medium brown patina changes color ever so slightly at the upper obverse; 1849 N.23. Extremely Fine-40. There are a few minor marks beneath mahogany toning. 2 pieces. 864 1840 N.7. Large Date AU-50 $100.00 Sharpness of About Uncirculated-50. Dark and porous; 1841 N.2. Detail of Extremely Fine-40. Dark and very rough; 1843 Petite Head, Small Letters. Extremely Fine-40 or better in terms of wear. The surfaces are a bit rough and there are patches of dark patina; 1847 Choice Fine-15, nearly Very Fine. 4 pieces. 865 1842 N.1 (R-3). Small Date AU-50 $170.00 About Uncirculated-50. A attractive shade of medium olive toning is featured on this appealing example. Quite scarce in this condition. 866 1844 N.1. Line at Base of 1. Mint State-60 MS-60 $340.00 - with claims to a higher grade. Reflective mahogany brown fields are splendidly reflective. All reliefs are meticulously struck and fully detailed to create outstanding overall visual appeal. 867 1845 Mint State-60 MS-60 $100.00 Handsomely toned a rich chocolate-brown over satiny fields and design features. There are a few minor spots in the fields that preclude a higher grade. 868 1846 N.5. Line under 1. Mint State-60 MS-60 $200.00 - or a trifle finer. Glossy medium brown highlights the excellent quality of this coin's bold strike. This reverse shows bold vertical die file lines extending down from 'ES' as noted in Grellman's description of this variety. 869 1848, 1851, 1853 EF-40 $550.00 Very Fine-20, Choice Very Fine-35, and Extremely Fine-40 respectively. The second coin is approaching Extremely Fine. The last exhibits some light obverse disturbance both at the rim and within the interior. 3 pieces. 870 1850, 1852 CH EF $110.00 Both are Choice Extremely Fine-45 with claims to a higher grade. The former is toned a shade of pale to medium brown. The latter is a somewhat deeper olive-brown. 2 pieces. 871 1854 N.9. Mint State-60 MS-60 $100.00 - with claims to a higher grade. An assertive central strike complements smooth medium brown fields and design features. 872 1855 N.10. Slanting 5's; 1856 N.15/N.16. Slanting 5 CH EF to AU-50 $125.00 Late die state (N.15). Choice Extremely Fine-45 and About Uncirculated-50 respectively. The first has sustained some very minor marks on the obverse rim. The second reveals trivial reverse porosity visible only with a glass. 2 pieces. 873 1857 N.1. Large Date. Mint State-60 MS-60 $350.00 Well struck chocolate-brown surfaces retain plenty of velvet-like underlying mint bloom. There is a single obverse stain just below Liberty's chin.
