1837 Large Date, Peak-Topped 1. MS-64 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$950.00 |
Medium brown toning over lustrous silvery surfaces, with some iridescent blue, particularly around the border. Nicely struck. First year of the Liberty Seated issue, the short lived design without stars. Especially popular for inclusion in type sets. |

1849-O MS-66 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$10,000.00 |
A bright and lustrous gem, a somewhat reflective specimen with lightly pebbled obverse devices, no doubt the result of mildly rusted dies. Some striking weakness present at the obverse stars and the top of the reverse wreath, but most design elements are fairly crisp and bold. While 140,000 examples of the date were struck, much of that mintage was spent time and time again in commerce in New Orleans,... more |

1851-O MS-66 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$4,400.00 |
Lustrous and satiny with nuance of faint champagne toning on both sides. Nicely struck for the date, with just a hint of weakness at the upper left of the reverse wreath; the wreath is not full, but comes close enough to merit mention. A rare date in high Mint State grades, its mintage of 860,000 pieces notwithstanding. Typically found in lower circulated grades, say VG to EF, but seldom encountered... more |

1852-O MS-65 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$6,500.00 |
Sparklingly lustrous deep golden gray with rich peach and electric blue highlights. Nicely struck with just a modicum of weakness here or there; overall it is a bold representation of the date. While some 260,000 circulation strike half dimes were produced in New Orleans in 1852, the date escalates in value when AU or finer is reached. Probably much of the mintage was repeatedly circulated,... more |

1854 Arrows. MS-64 (PCGS)
|
(see below) |
$550.00 |
Strong underlying lustre supports rich gold, faint blue, and rose highlights. A sharply struck and thoroughly pleasing example of a perennial favorite among type coin collectors. |

1859 Proof-64 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$1,200.00 |
Steel blue and magenta surfaces over a mirrored background. Date numerals slightly repunched, not unusual, but certainly interesting. The Proofs this year are of a slightly modified design with Miss Liberty's arms slimmer, etc. |

1859 Proof-63 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$750.00 |
Repunched 1 in date. Gunmetal-blue and gray toning with some flecks. Sharp design details. This particular 1859 Philadelphia issue is unique in that the figure of Liberty is slightly restyled, said to have been by Anthony C. Paquet, with slightly slimmer arms and a few other distinctions best observed under magnification. |

1868-S MS-65 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$1,800.00 |
A sharp and appealing specimen of a popular branch mint issue, this specimen is richly toned electric gunmetal-blue and pale rose. All devices are crisp and sharp, and careful scrutiny reveals that the gem status is well earned. Finally, we note that just four examples of the date have been certified finer than the present specimen, all called MS-66 by NGC. We hear opportunity knocking! |
