1871 Proof-65 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$775.00 |
Brilliant and attractive. The surfaces appear to be lightly lacquered, and although we don't know, we imagine that if this piece were sent back to NGC they could easily enough remove the lacquer with a harmless solvent. The 1871 is desirable as a Proof and is also important in view of the related low mintage of circulation strikes. |

1878 Proof-65 (PCGS)
|
(see below) |
$1,600.00 |
A lovely Proof with attractive mint lustre on both sides, with some prooflike surfaces. As specialists know, 1878 shield nickels were made only in Proof format per Mint records, and to the extent of 2,350 pieces. However, the dies were not deeply polished, and nearly all show attractive lustre. This is a nice one. |

1882 Proof-66 Cameo (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$700.00 |
Brilliant, beautiful, and as nice as can be! The market price of Shield and Liberty Head nickels in such grades as Proof-64 and Proof-65 is incredibly low today in comparison to the market peak of 1990. For the aware numismatist, there are many great buying opportunities. |

1883 Liberty Head. No Cents. MS-66 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$440.00 |
Light brown and gold toning over lustrous surfaces. A nice example of one of the great "story coins" of the 20th century. Word spread that the Mint had made a mistake by not including CENTS on the reverse, and that such pieces would soon be called in and become rare and valuable. So many were hoarded for this reason that today, more than a century later, nickels of this particular variety... more |

Medium gray and gold toning over very sharply struck surfaces. |
|

1895 Proof-64 (PCGS)
|
(see below) |
$750.00 |
Sharply struck. Medium gold and gray toning. A few tiny flecks are seen here and there. A very nice example within the assigned grade. |

1906 MS-65 (NGC)
|
(see below) |
$525.00 |
Satiny lustre is toned medium gold. Excellent strike, a bonus worth noting, with the kernels on the corn ear sharp. However, to be perfectly technical there is slight lightness on the topmost star on the obverse—not that anyone would notice. All told, the strike is considerably finer than usually seen. |

$1,400.00 |
Brilliant with full details on both sides. Matte surface characteristic of the dies. A splendid example, not easy to find so nice. |

|
(see below) |
$1,300.00 |
Medium gray and gold toning, with some splashes of iridescence on the reverse. Fairly decent strike, above average, but not full details. The mintmark is bold. Significantly finer than usual eye appeal will no doubt draw much bidding interest. |

$850.00 |
Lustrous silvery surfaces with a hint of golden toning. Sharp details, just a whisper away from the ultimate full details. Bold mintmark. Significantly nicer than usually seen. |
