5143 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (PCGS) (see below) $1,800.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Lightly toned orange surfaces exhibit some "woodgrain" natural brown,...
Lightly toned orange surfaces exhibit some "woodgrain" natural brown, but original mint orange is prevalent. Well struck and quite attractive. A nice example of this famous 20th century key issue.
5144 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (PCGS) (see below) $2,800.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Richly lustrous and displaying more "red" than "brown," but actually...
Richly lustrous and displaying more "red" than "brown," but actually a nice mixture of both, this piece also checks in with full details—a sharp strike. Some little flecks are seen here and there and are scarcely worth mentioning. A very decent, quite attractive example of the Lincoln cent variety that everyone aspires to own.
5145 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $3,200.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Designated RB, but mostly "R," meaning red, a misapplication of what...
Designated RB, but mostly "R," meaning red, a misapplication of what probably should be called orange. In any event, the piece has much mint red, changing to light brown and some splashes of blue iridescence. Sharply struck. It is rather curious that Lincoln cents of the earlier years generally are found with better details and nicer overall appearance than are those from 10 years later....  more
5146 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,800.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Well struck and mostly red, this coin has more "red" (actually orange)...
Well struck and mostly red, this coin has more "red" (actually orange) than some that are classified as "RD." The obverse is particularly notable in this regard. A few flecks are seen here and there. A dandy example that is well worth examining in person before formulating a bidding strategy. Look at it and you will like it!
5147 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,800.00

Nice things find their way to American Numismatic Rarities, sometimes in pairs, other times in small groups, but here in a truly notable array of 1909-S V.D.B. cents that are well struck, attractive, not fussed with (recolored or cleaned), and which check in as being thoroughly worthwhile on every level. While NGC has called them "RB," the term "RD" would be equally applicable for the...  more

Brilliant, attractive, nicely struck, and well worth owning, this coin is also nearly full red, but with an area of brown on the reverse.
5149 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,750.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). The preceding description applies equally well to this one. In looking...
The preceding description applies equally well to this one. In looking over the run of 1909-S V.D.B.s, we find them to be immensely appealing. It could be that anyone with a few dollars to set aside might consider picking up not one, but several of these nicely matched coins. It may be a long time before a similar opportunity recurs.
5150 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,800.00

The same description could be applied to this coin—mostly fully original mint color, but with some areas of brown on the reverse. Very nice.
5151 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $3,200.00

The obverse of this coin is about as bright as we have ever seen on a coin that has not been dipped or cleaned. The reverse is likewise, save for a small band of light brown. For our money this coin is every bit as nice as some graded MS-65 RD. Check it out and see what you think.
5152 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $3,200.00

Brilliant, beautiful, and easily described by simply repeating the preceding. The obverse of this one is also especially bright.
5153 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $3,000.00

The present piece is orange-yellow with some areas of magenta and iridescence. The lustre is strong.
5154 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,800.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Warm golden yellow-orange surfaces are seen on both sides, brilliant,...
Warm golden yellow-orange surfaces are seen on both sides, brilliant, save for a significant area of light brown on the reverse. Although one numerical designation serves to classify all of these coins, when they are inspected side by side, as we are doing here, there are some small differences.
5155 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,800.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Warm orange with nicely blended brown, accented by some whispers of...
Warm orange with nicely blended brown, accented by some whispers of blue iridescence. Some areas of light brown on the reverse. Another quality coin. It is amazing that this group survived all of these years, nearly a century, without getting into the hands of a "coin doctor."
5156 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,750.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Rich orange-magenta lustre on the obverse. The reverse is similar and...
Rich orange-magenta lustre on the obverse. The reverse is similar and yields another treat to the eye. Some areas of brown are seen on the reverse. No words can do justice to the beauty of this and the other pieces in the present group, any one of which is well worth owning.
5157 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,900.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Brilliant orange surfaces with hints of light iridescence. The reverse...
Brilliant orange surfaces with hints of light iridescence. The reverse is similar, but with areas of brown.
5158 1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC) (see below) $2,800.00
1909-S V.D.B. MS-64 RB (NGC). Medium brown toning on the obverse is mixed with areas of mint orange,...
Medium brown toning on the obverse is mixed with areas of mint orange, with brown predominating. On the reverse brown and orange are seen together, mostly brown. This piece is more toned than the preceding, perhaps indicating it was at the end of a roll.
5159 1909-S V.D.B. EF-40 (PCGS) (see below) $900.00
1909-S V.D.B. EF-40 (PCGS). Medium brown toning, attractive overall, a nice representative of the...
Medium brown toning, attractive overall, a nice representative of the assigned grade.
5160 1914-D MS-65 BN (NGC) (see below) $9,500.00
1914-D MS-65 BN (NGC). Graded MS-65 BN by NGC, this piece has a generous quotient of original mint...
Graded MS-65 BN by NGC, this piece has a generous quotient of original mint orange and in our opinion could just as easily be called RB rather than BN. Lots of opinion when it comes to grading! The obverse is especially well struck, with excellent detail, as is the reverse. The obverse is mainly mint orange blending to light brown, while the reverse is a mixture of iridescent blue, magenta,...  more
5161 1919-S MS-64 BN (NGC) (see below) $260.00

Lustrous brown surfaces include ample tinges of mint red. Fairly decent strike for 1919-S, indeed above average, and notable as such.
5162 1928 MS-67 RD (PCGS) (see below) $1,600.00
1928 MS-67 RD (PCGS). Brilliant and lustrous. An attractive example from what seems to be a fresh...
Brilliant and lustrous. An attractive example from what seems to be a fresh die pair, a bonus that should be taken into consideration when bidding. The striking is quite good. A nice example of the date and assigned grade.
